L.A. mayor Villaraigosa delays payment of 100 million in personal costs till AFTER he leaves office.
Villaraigosa delays payment of $100 million in personnel costs - latimes.com

This way the corrupt Democrat is not in office when questions arise about corruption.

What poor accountability, between Mayor Tony V. and the Dem. Clown Gov. Jerry Brown it's pretty easy to see why Calif. is in dire financial straits.

This should be illegal, pliticians should be able to budget, account for and PAY their bills in a timely, reasonable AND tranparent fashion.

California might be in financial trouble, but the root cause isn't this one particular thing. You do realize that California and LA are two different things. One is a state and one is a city.

The mayor found a way to defer costs into the future. Revenues are obviously lower now when the economy is bad and will be balanced out when the economy gets stronger. Private companies find ways to do this type of thing all of the time.

Incidentally, it's odd that you'd be harping on a Democrat here. Should I guess that you're a right wing partisan who wouldn't give a crap if a Republican was doing this?

...i took the poster as commenting on the mindset, the culture of non-accountability...and you are correct, private companies do this all the time...with there own money.

...no need to name call, it's very unbecoming..

You should realize that Democrats control L.A. and the state.

And that L.A. Mayor's cousin John Perez is THE SPEAKER fot CA. State Democrats something YOU deliberately overlooked.

Revenues are lower because of mismanagement by Schwarzeneggar and the Democrats in office now AND then. So much for your failed right wing theory.
Dems are firmly in control of the State, another point you ignored.

Reminiscent of the tricks that the Republican Mayor of New York City in the 1970s, John Lindsay, used to hide NYC's budget crisis, which caused the city to go bankrupt under his Dem successor Beame. This may happen in Los Angeles. If it does it will probably mean the death of the city. Without NYC there can be no America ; L.A. despite its many virtues and advantages which it still has is not as important.

This is occurring on top of the dubious legality of the $1 billion transfer of funds from the soon to be abolished CRA to the city of L.A.'s general fund. Which may result in some charges against Villaraigosa and others in city government. Obama does not like Tony V - he believes Tony to be immoral and inept, and remembers Tony V's ties to Enron when he was CA Speaker ; a GOP president would probably not like him either.

The city of L.A., and the state of California, both have a deep and unhealthy tolerance for dysfunctional government structures. City government was practically designed to fail on paper in order that certain interests could profit. When the population of the city was not as large the city more or less worked despite its governmental structure, but larger populations mean dysfunctional structures no longer work as well. To varying extents this is true of all CA big cities except for San Francisco (whose structure of government is just fine but which tends to elect idiots nevertheless). The state constitution is outdated and dysfunctional. With such a framework to work with I don't think anyone could really do that much better than Brown is doing right now. The state really needs a new constitution (and L.A. needs a new charter, perhaps a borough system)
