These morons running USPS are yet again raising prices way above the CPI. Isn't this illegal? My company sends out hundreds of samples allover the world and we are looking at 35% increase in our shipping costs from this most recent increase alone.....but of course, stamps only increased by one damn penny! Raise the stamp prices, not parcels you imbeciles! Our shipping costs have doubled in four years after this increase coming January 22nd. They are abusing the monopoly they have on mailboxes and ultimately just hurting theirselves .....as prices are now closing in on UPS, and companies cut back on shipping internationally through usps. Way to stunt small business growth , to pay these lazy bums USPS employees like royalty. DOWN THE TUBES WE GO...:....

They also lost all my business by making it illegal to ship many legal items. kinda like forcing you to try the competition. they dont really want anyones business, they think they are safe cause the gov is there.

The OP is correct. But the problem is first class mail is already being replaced by the internet. Several temp agencies use online billing only now. Many of our suppliers prefer it, as do we, and use it.

The reality is the USPS needs to drastically reduce staffing levels. the 100k mentioned is not out of line, less of a percentage cut over the last 20 years than most private corps.

Then go ahead and contract with FedExcess or OooPS so your shipping costs only increase 135%.

Noticing that some people complain about nothing...

Cute cartoon...and you just proved my point. It's the first class mail costing only 44 cents that is going to send our company into bankruptcy. They are passing the cost onto other shipping classes. 1st class mail has only increased 10-20% over the last five years. It has kept up with the CPI as required by law. Our shipping costs for parcels and international has gone up 100 to 150% in 5 years! How is this even legal? When you're competing globally, you are at a huge disadvantage to countries in Asia because now they can ship at 1/3rd the cost we can. Did I really need to explain this?
The bloat in usps is making the country less competitive. Just another reason to move business out of the US.

Although it's fun for some to run down their fellow working average Americans maybe a closer look at the problem of the USPS might change the minds of smarter critics.

The USPS, UNLIKE OTHER ENTITIES, is REQUIRED to put 5.5 BILLION anually in a pre-pension fund.
THAT is where the "bloat" is....

Typically Democrats want to get rid of that unfair burden and save postal workers(our neighbors, friends, relatives, fellow average WORKING Americans) by getting rid of this unfair and unecessary burden.

Typically the Repugs want to get rid of the average WORKING Americans who work at the Post Office as a solution. They think more Americans without jobs is a good thing....

The USPS has been trying to cut costs, workers, modernize, for many, many years. Congress said no.
In 2006, a seriously-deranged Congress, passed a law whereby
pension obligations imposed on USPS by a 2006 law. Under current law, the Postal Service is required to pre-pay $5.5 billion a year (until 2016) into a fund for future retiree health care costs. The legislation would also reimburse the Postal Service for overpayments it made into the Federal Employee Retirement System for employees who earned federal government retirement benefits while the service was still a government agency. Under the bill, the reimbursement amount would be determined by an Office of Personnel Management study.

Sounds like a sound business model that Congress created?

Before any serious discussion could take place regarding the USPS, a serious review of this law would have to be undertaken.

H.R. 6407 [109th]: Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act (GovTrack.us)

As some know, without this staggering prepay, the USPS would be OK.
The USPS is also funded by themselves, not the taxpayer.

USPS has been crying for a few years now that they need money. Then they say they will close hundreds of POs. Then it goes to Congress. Then nothing happens. Rinse and repeat.

Maybe they're hoping for a bailout from Uncle Sam.
