all you did was name a bunch of departments. that doesn't support your premise that they're "out of control."

Some government control is good....however with what they are allowing monsanto to get away with is concerning to say the very least.

Listing the number of the departments in an agency irregardless of headcount, performance, spending, comparisons to other departments with less/more, and redundancy makes no sense. All it does is show the world you have no idea what you are talking about, but find any god awful reason no matter how stupid or insane in order to justify your belief.

Complaining about lack of government intervention because of funding ?
If you read the article the government is the one that caused all this.

And now they've changed their tune about putting antibiotics/pesticides/arsenic in animal feed. Only Congress put their request for hearing "on hold".

We did this to ourselves so don't complain.
It was your government that thought it was a good idea to be proactive and let farmers plug their animals full of chemicals to prevent problems so they could create those CAFOs.

You get no sympathy from me. This is what your "big government" did to take care of you.

Oh, wait. Let's return to the days before the FDA when meat processor's sold putrid meat from long dead cows, there was more "maple syrup" sold than New England produced, rotten vegetables were the norm (the consumer just cut off the waste), people died regularly from food poisoning and nobody gave much of a damn because the motto was "let the customer beware."

You know...the FDA wasn't invented in a vacuum. It was created to address some very, very serious issues in our food supply, issues which were killing people every day because profit took priority over health and public safety.

Go re-read "The Jungle," by Upton Sinclair and see if you REALLY want to do without an FDA again.

So what number is the right size?

Food and Drug Administration - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The FDA regulates more than $1 trillion worth of consumer goods, about 25% of consumer expenditures in the United States. This includes $466 billion in food sales, $275 billion in drugs, $60 billion in cosmetics and $18 billion in vitamin supplements. Much of the expenditures is for goods imported into the United States; the FDA is responsible for monitoring a third of all imports.

Actually the USDA is responsible for meat but it was the FDA that allowed the animals to be fed all those chemicals. Now it's coming back to haunt them in the form of killer hamburger meat.
