We Definitely need to keep the "Original Sanctity of Traditional Marriage" don't you agree.

Marriage should be for hetero-couple's only. Because it is tradition.

With a high divorce rate, spousal abuse, and infidelity that we find in marriages, we heterosexuals are sure doing a great job with the "Sanctity" part.

Why do you have 2 threads on the same subject one minute apart?

Marriage would still be a tradition. It would just be extended to include more people.

Gay marriage will not work for me because I'm not gay, but it might work for gay couples.

Really? Because it is tradition?

Lots of things have been "tradition." Lovely things such as spousal rape, slave ownership, child labor. You know: We've always had slaves. I've always forced my wife to have sex when she didn't want to. We've always had kids work on mines.

"Tradition" is a very, very poor argument. It neglects to take into account justice, liberty, fairness, merit, etc.

Ah, one of the weakest arguments. Things should stay the same because they came before in time.

Congrats, you have discovered the oldest and worst justifications for "conserving the past"

By that reasoning we should keep treatments of leeching and mercury drinking instead of modern medicine because it came before in time.

The Netherlands has had gay marriage for over 10 years, and MA has had gay marriage since 2004.

They're doing just fine.

Give up already.

Marriage between a man and a woman is not a tradition - it is the building block of healthy communities, cities, states, and countries.

Just because humans don't behave, does not change what marriage is and how important it is to society.

So it has never happened in the past?

Prove that only straight marriage can be a building block.

Don't ask for negative proof, that's the sign of a nut and a crank.
