I wonder if Jack and thousands of other professors want to say what the REAL problem is: Parents... but FOX would never want to tell their viewers that it's their fault.
Too many young adults today just weren't raised with the skills to be self-sufficient adults. That's why they don't move out until their 30's, why they think they are automatically entitled to the same kind of life their parents have while somehow forgetting it took their parents 20-30 years of work to get there and why they throw a hissy fit whenever they don't get what they want.
Their parents never said NO when they had a tantrum in the store over a candy bar, hovered over them as they played under close supervision in a controlled environment and picked them up every time they fell instead of letting them get up on their own.
They got a wall full of "participant" trophies, were constantly told how wonderful and special they were, that they could do anything...be anything, never got a punishment more severe than a "time out" when they did bad and were otherwise sheltered from anything and everything even remotely negative.
And when they turn out to be 2 year olds in adult bodies who can't function in the real world we blame Public School and Obama!
I have to be honest here. I scanned the first part of your post and nearly replied in an manner not very cool. Being a parent of three kids (adults now) I wanted to express outrage at your point. My family has turned out great! All are functioning adults in society and are doing well. But then I realized that many parents do indeed mollycoddle their children and the results are horrendous. It's a shame actually.
Your second paragraph is spot on.I agree 100% with your points.
The last line I must address though.
The progressive movement (and other less desirable influences) have permeated the public education system to such an extent in America it has become an indoctrination system rather than the original intent. This is NOT the fault of parents. The government is the problem.
As for blaming O for the current subject matter. I don't blame him for it. I do however recognize his use of it! He DOES have a card in play by being a very active catalyst in that he manipulates people right to their face with lies. He is a liar by trade and when more realize that rather than worship at his alter, perhaps they'll view him and his actions more pragmatically.
For a second there I thought this thread was going to be about the baby boomers and their trillions in guaranteed handouts when they will retire that they've set up for themselves.

Just some square middle aged curmudgeon whining about the next generation. The guy in the video doesn't even look that old, but I guess you are as old as you feel.
This professor has showed his students just what they are and is trying to figure out where they got these ideas. Notice his outstanding attempt to let them see just what they are saying.
It is noteworthy that the majority of those who disagree with the premise of the video are the same ones who take the "boomers" to task for "being alive". Others just attack either you, or Jack Chambless who has a rather brilliant career outside the classroom and is quite well known in economic circles (Biography).
Some blame the parents for college students' view of the function of government, a claim that may have some validity. But, the participants in this exercise were college sophomores who are of voting age, and should be capable of rational thought.
I tend to think that all the socialist ideals are being taught, either consciously or unconsciously, in both public schools, the home, and by our political representatives. The prevailing idea that wealth is bad, and the wealthy are crooks seems to seep from every crack in our society,...i.e.,...that when things get tough "taxing the rich" will solve the problem.
There is a defeatist attitude among the younger ones in our society. They seem to see no real value in working hard to provide for themselves as an end unto itself. Too quickly they look to the government to solve their problems, and fall into that rut of blaming someone else for their problems.

Aren't you a retired teacher? I'm currently teaching but approaching retirement myself.
As teachers, we have the duty to try to inform our students and to get them to think and develop the ability to cast aside misconceptions in favor of analyzing good information.
Did you have this dismal view of the kids you taught? Or did you see that every generation steps up to the plate and does their best when it comes their turn?
Sure, each class I've taught included a few jokers and bums. But they're a tiny minority. Those who want to characterize a generation based on this small slice are guilty of failure to analyze just as much as the nonthinking students this professor whines about in that Fox video.
I have quite a few former students who are now proudly serving America in the war on terror and performing magnificently. Others are tackling difficult studies in engineering, medicine, and computer science.
The future is in good hands.

Again, that's our duty as teachers. To train these young folks to cast aside misconceptions in favor of critical thinking.
That Fox video strikes me as just another insipid bash at teens and public schools. Custom tailored for their audience of old grumps and bitter folks who hated school themselves and now eagerly swallow any and all criticism of education.
We should really take the word of a professor at a junior college in Florida as gold?
Come on.
He's showing the mentility of what's coming out of America's high school's
America's future, kids who want it ALL for free, because we all know, nobody pays for it............It's free right
