I wouldn't describe the US as "right wing" as much as right-of-center. What's hurting the GOP these days is its insistence on right-wing extremism, which the average American does not share, particularly on social issues. If the GOP kicked the Tea Party element to the curb more often, and worked to bring more resolution with the President and Democratic Congress, they wouldn't be catching as much heat with the average voter right now.

Thumbs Up! The GOP needs to drop social issues and leave them at the state level. Their views on social issues scares the majority of Americans.
Who said America is so right wing? I'd say most Americans are moderates close to the center of the isle.
