Let's remember the audience here: republitards and conservatards. We need to resort to our liberal sense of compassion in this case.

If it were a quip about Obama being a socialist or something that would extend to Obama policy, then there might be a question about whether a judge should reveal his political leanings while on the bench, but that's about as far as it would go.

But when a justice reveals that his leanings go beyond just the political and have more to do with deeper-seeded prejudices against an entire demographic group of people, many of whom he has presumably encountered while acting in the capacity of being a judge serving the public, then yes, he'd better be ready to explain himself. And as far as I'm concerned, he had better be prepared to retire. There is no place for that kind of decidedly partial justice on the bench. Get his sorry cracker @ss out of the courtroom.
Your last sentence says a lot about YOUR racism and prejudices. MAYBE, based on what others have said about this judge's past sentencing requiring review because of what people perceive are his prejudices, someone should review all of YOUR previous comments and statements, based on YOUR racism.

You have shown us by your remark that you are a racist, doesn't that suggest that your statement that he should be prepared to retire also be suspect, based on your prejudices and bias?

Have all you people who are defending this joke as not being racist noticed that the judge who circulated has admitted it is a racist joke?

He's a good example of the extremists, racists the GOP has packed the Federal courts with, and why they're blocking the appointment of Pres. Obama's appointments, appointments of persons with a higher degree of intelligence and character. He should step down from the bench.

Nope, last I checked we all still had freedom of speech.

Tasteless yes, but bothers me, nope. It's his right to make jokes of any kind, no matter how gross they might be.

I can't believe this guy is a federal judge. If he was a janitor it wouldn't be that scandalous, but a judge, and a federal one? What the?????

This is just sad really.

A judge admits that the joke he sent from his email is racist yet he claims he is not racist.

A joke that "touched his heart." A joke about someone's dead mother that alludes to the fact that she gets so wasted at parties that she may have banged a dog. Alluding to comparing sex with black people and animals are similar.

What is even sadder:
Posters defending him and saying that people are just insensitive to the joke.
Posters claiming that the email wasn't racist even though the Judge himself stated that the email was racist.
Posters trying to justify the joke by saying that Barack Obama's mother was a **** that traveled the world banging other people while abandoning her child. Which is funny considering she was married almost the entire time to Barack Sr. or Mr. Sotero whom she didn't divorce until 1980. But you know don't let facts get in the way of hate.

What is unfair about reviewing sentences of felons based upon similar crimes committed, while controlling for similarities in their criminal history? Such studies are done all the time and are more than scientifically sound.

First, one can say whatever one would like, but by the same token one also places one's self in jeopardy of the consequences of such speech.

Second, the use of a company or governmental emails for use other than what they are provided for isn't covered under the First Amendment.

Third, there are many professions where freedom of speech is circumscribed due to the nature of the position of the person exercising such speech. Judges and attorneys are often sanctioned for ill advised statements which jeopardize the impartiality of the judicial system.

Fourth, the judge has placed himself in a situation where he will be challenged to recuse himself by both prosecutors and defense attorneys from presiding over cases involving race.

I'm white, so it's not likely that I'm being racist against other whites.
