I've seen this happen to all minorities on these threads and on other blogs but gay people such as myself get blamed for everything ANY gay person does by some.
i have never heard of this happening to straight white males, they're all thought of as complete individuals.
If a gay guy commits a crime.. then i've actually had people tell me that THAT is the reason why gay people are perceived as such and such
i've never been to a gay pride parade, but i've been told that 'you people and your parades' such and such
and that if i want to be seen differently it's MY responsibility to make sure gay people to such and such..
like i have the time to travel around the country and talk to each gay person and make sure that they behave in a way that i wan them too and that it's my responsibility to do so.
it's like people believe that all gay people have the same lifestyles and live life the same way.
if an individual straight white guy does something you hardly ever here people placing blame upon them as a group, they're all seen as individuals, unlike us.

I think it's REALITY that calls attention to people who are different from the mainstream power group,
if someone is black, their skin shows that difference, i'm gay and my relationship shows that difference (though it's much easier to hide my minority sexuality as it's an interior trait and not visible if i'm a single guy just walking around, unless people can perceive my gayness, which is possible)

Uncontrollable laughing here. You are 100% correct. I'm gonna be thinking about this for months. Every time somebody makes a gross generalization, your thought will be coming into my brain.
Everyone one of us is responsible for the complete and total behavior of our subset, group, tribe or clan except white males.
That will make excellent dinner conversation when I'm spending time with the grandsons.

well, i've been told that the behavior of SOME people at a gay pride parade means that ALL gay people are promiscuous, and that it's MY responsibility to make sure that the people in the gay community don't act like this. again, i have neither the time nor the money to travel around the country to make sure that every gay person acts in accordance with my or anybody elses sense of appropriate behavior.
plus it's weird that they think that we all know each other,
also anytime there is a gay person who is also a pedophile, i have also been told that's proof that I am ALSO a pedophile, i have also been told that i share a lifestyle with all other gay people 'the gay lifestyle', when no such universal lifestyle exists.
