I hear the same song from the left over and over again...."You want to do this or that on the backs of the poor!".

Cut medicaid, SSI, Food Stamps, Welfare, WIC and SCHIP.

Allowing people to fend for themselves would create a better society.

Two generations and we'll all be better.

People once did fend for themselves. Guess what the end result of that was?

Hint: See: Social safety net.

Actually the end result of people fending for themselves was stronger families, churches, communities, and helping institutions. The result of the so-called safety net is a general weakening of these mediating institutions as the government seeks to do that which it was never designed to do--and does it poorly and to the detriment of those it purports to help specifically and of society in general.

If that's the case, then why did we create the safety net in the first place? Do you think it was just crafted in a vacuum?

No...the end result of that era was a VERY high rate of infant mortality and a very short life span for the poor and needy combined with misery...history DOES exist, some need to read it.

Why do so many unpatriotic Americans want to starve the poor and feed the rich? I'll never understand that..do the math on what we've paid for bank and corporate bailouts, farm subsidies to corp. farms etc vs feeding our hungry kids.

To overcome the hardship of the Great Depression.
Safety nets are supposed to be temporary.

To buy votes. It's called "the Democrat base." It's why the war on poverty will never be won. The Democrats need people needing them. Keep them down and give them stuff and they'll vote Democrat for life.

Actualy the majority of folks who want to limit handouts were also opposed to the bailouts.

And by the way. They are not OUR hungry kids . They are someone elses.
We are not all one big disfunctional family, even thou many wish that was the case.
