The Texas GOP-dominated
legislature has slashed state funding for women's health clinics by 2/3rds, forcing many clinics to close. Many Medicaid clinics that provide health care for poor families are also closing, as Gov Perry TURNED DOWN $35 million in federal funds, apparently out of fear that some of it would go to Planned Parenthood:

Actually Perry did not turn it down. Texas said no PP funding and the Fed said then no dice on all the money.

Perry did say that Texas would support the services then (minus PP funding) but didn't have specifics.
FWIW the Texas legislature only meets every 2 years and they are not in session right now.

Unfortunately, those aren't the kind of Tex women that go out and vote. They might even be illegal aliens.

It's about all the Dems have right now to use against the Repubs.
Not many accomplishments in the past 3 years unless record food stamp usage or record deficit setting is something they want to talk about.

i think the democrats have a variety of potential arguments to use against the GOP -- the problem is that they are all too cerebral. they have to dumb things down and fabricate a "war on women" to actually motivate their base.

liberal chicks in blue states eat this kind of thing up, when you give them the opportunity to play the victim.

Texas has become pretty hopeless in recent years. The public found out last fall about how bleak our 3 -term governor is. The thing is, he's convinced that his exposure isn't a liability to further and higher public office. And the state legislature here isn't nearly as bright as Perry. There's little chance that Texas will turn a corner in the right direction in the forseeable future.

This from the party about to nominate a guy who pays less than half the tax rate I do. And still voting for a lunatic who finds church-state separation repulsive.

Any respect I might have had for the GOP is out the window this election season. Oligarchy and theocracy are not appealing.
