And gas prices aren't the half of it! Oil, and the cost of it, effect virtually every aspect of the economy and of our lives. It is what moves goods from one place to another, and it is what drives the machinery of Freedom (our manufacturing).
Those who believe like Obama that oil is "the fuel of the past" are sadly mistaken, and they are misguided.
There will never be a substitute for oil. They can dream all they want.
Just do some research on what comes out of a barrel of oil. It is astounding what products are derived from oil!
Last I checked the products made by refining oil delivered by the Keystone were not going to be sold in the US but were for foreign consumption. This like is to protect existing TEXAS refineries and just create more profit for a few at much greater risk for everyone along the route. Keeping antiquated refineries in business is apparently more important than near certain contamination of America’s vital underground water supply.
Oil prices are not managed by government but are created and controlled entirely by the petroleum industry through a set of legal cartels and illegal arrangements. This has been true for over 150 years.
Blaming President Obama for gasoline prices may be convenient for the RWA's but is entirely misplaced. The prices are controlled by the companies not the President.
Since high gasoline prices are partly due to the dollar being worth less, and the dollar is worth less because of our very high debt, which Obama and the Democrats are responsible for, and since high gasoline prices are also due to the fact that Obama places restrictions on our own domestic drilling and production, what lands may be utilized, and what technologies may be used, Obama is responsible.
If we were to anounce tomorrow that the XL Pipeline was approved, though it would take time for oil to flow, that action alone would cause the price of oil to drop (that is a fact of life backed up by historical evidence).
If we also opened up the ANWR to drilling and production, it would have an even more profound effect.
Obama has put America in such a devastating mess . If he gets re-elected I'm truly afraid America will end up a communist country. Everything he has done has been to promote a socialist agenda. Just look at is green jobs Czar. Van Jones is a communist. I know hes gone , but Obama appointed him to begin with.

Just plain nonsense. You don't know what you are talking about.
Rush once recently pointed out that there are already thousands of miles of pipelines in this country, and that JFK International Airport, for example, was dependent on pipeline delivery of jet fuel. You cannot truck in enough fuel for the supply that is required to fuel the jets at JFK.
We have pipelines everywhere.

Only partly true. Prices are affected by the supply, as well as the expected future supply, and of course by the demand. If the future supply is expected to be greater, prices today will drop. That is a known fact, and has been true for many decades.
Obama's policy decisions where oil and production are concerned do indeed affect the price of oil, and gasoline at the pump.
Indeed there will never be a substitute for liquid transportation fuel. This liquid fuel does not have to be derived from crude oil pumped out of the ground. That is just the currently least expensive way to obtain the stuff. As the current prices are held by the monopolies far higher than "natural" market prices there is no incentive to develop alternate sources if transportation fuel. If someone invested in the alternate the companies would drop their prices, with little effect on their profits, to a point where the alternate suppliers went bankrupt.
Crude oil is either derived from geologic cooking of Cretaceous swamps or reformation of naturally occurring deep rock methane. The former has stopped and the latter may not be happening at a high enough rates to provide an affordable supply of transportation fuel and chemical feedstock. In the 1800’s technologies [Fischer Tropsh sp?] were developed to create Methane from any sufficiently rich source of Carbon. Coal was the typical feedstock and after being heated and refined to coke the red hot carbon was missed with water steam and resulted in Carbon Monoxide and Methane. It was called producer or city gas and provided lighting fuel for much of Europe and the US. It was replaced with electricity and Natural Gas to provide heat and light.
The organic chemistry guys can make nearly anything out of CO2 and CH4. Transportation fuel is the least of their magic. It is more expensive than petroleum oil but still is an alternate. Using high temperature gas cooled nuclear reactors to refine the coal into coke would increase the potential supply of complex hydrocarbons to the unlimited range because the ultimate carbon source is atmospheric CO2.

Not sure how getting America moving forward after probably the biggest recession in America's history is putting "America in such a devestating mess"
You obviously think that improving the economy, creating jobs, getting us out of a devestating war, saving the auto industry, making strides in creating a decent health system for all, moving away from our dependency on foreign oil, creating new energies for fuel and getting a system that stops us spending billions in oil rich countries that hate us... is "socialist" or "communist"..... Never in a million years......... it's "Americanist"....... Kudos Mr President for getting the American recovery on the road...
I read most of TARATOVA's lengthy post and can only conclude that is one of the most creative Science Fiction writers currently on this board. His rant is complete and utter nonsense. I would like to know where he copied it from.
No nonsensguy should remove the no from his name. Another set of complete absurdity as the previous mentioned poster.
