Senate Democrats in Wisconsin, joined by one Republican, vote to kill iron mining in their state, and with it the jobs.
This is starting to become habit with Democrats, as they would rather appease a few radical environmentalists, than to provide jobs for masses of workers who need them, even though the secretary of Wisconsins Department of Natural Resources has stated that she could have permitted the mining with no harm to the environment.

Gogebic Taconite, the proposed developer, announced that they were abandoning efforts in Wisconsin. Their comments: "Senate rejection of the mining reforms in Assembly Bill 426 sends a clear message that Wisconsin will not welcome iron mining. We get the message. GTac is ending plans to invest in a Wisconsin mine."
While the writer makes the charge that this is to make Gov. Scott Walker look bad, and effect the recall effort, I think this reflects typical Democrat thinking.

1 point for reasonably accurate title and body.
No points for using a ridiculous link. The article says it has to do with pure spite rather than pure Dems choosing environment over jobs.
(Reuters) - A controversial plan to strip mine for iron ore in northern Wisconsin could proceed under a proposed state law designed to ease environmental rules.
Environmental concerns include the possible drawdown of water that supplies public and private wells, says Joe Barabe, the mayor of Mellen. Other dangers include potential loss of wetlands and noise from blasting and other industrial activity.
The region owes its livelihood almost entirely to mining, and has suffered with the decline of the industry, says Paul Sturgul, a Hurley attorney and chair of the Iron County citizen's advisory committee on mining.
"Many people here view the possibility of a return of mining - both iron and copper, including the proposed Orvana copper mine northeast of Ironwood - as the last gasp of the Gogebic Range," Sturgul said.
Hurley and Ironwood and all the northern Wisconsin communities near the Gogebic Range never recovered from the collapse of mining in the 1960s, says Sturgul, whose father worked in the mines.

Sounds as if there are larger concerns over the mining issue than just "spiting Scott Walker".

How dare you two come in here and destroy another RWNJ thread with fact!!!!........
The Repubs are once again bowing and scraping at the feet of their Corporate masters and then skewing the truth as usual...the Kool-aid drinkers love it.

Sure sounds different than what the OP was trying to spin. A few hundred jobs vs rules that control the restoration of the environment??? Gotta ask why the mining interests are against putting things back how they found them when they're done making their money....

It'll never happen ...they raped the ground around here for nearly a century mining coal and when it was time to restore the ground the company responsible would declare bankruptcy and open up in a new name the next day ,moving on to greener pastures...the Fed's have spent untold millions around here on reclamation.
Lets talk hypocritical, the left is complaining about a news site that is biased.
So, I expect the both of you ottomobeale and TempesT68, to do the exact same thing in all the leftist threads that post left leaning links..
And BTW....this quote is from your old buddy FB:

What I find astonishing is that no matter how much the environment is depleted, desecratred and rendered inhabitable, many people still do not see the signifigance of environmental protection. Are these individuals that ignrorant or are they from an alien planet?
Unfortunately for both side you have to mine for minerals where they are not where you want them to be. Different types of mining have vastly different social, economic and environmental costs. Apparently the developers have decided the ore is not worth the cost of development in the current climate. In any case private industry can open and close a mine without any consideration of the local economy. They always do.
That may reduce job opportunities in the short term but offer even greater opportunity in the longer term. The ore will still be there until it is mined. I would suggest that the ore body be bought by the State of Wisconsin and eventually mined and sold to a State owned smelter and the iron be sold on the open market. The forgone private profits, most likely destined for outside investors, would be retained inside the State for the benefits of all the citizens and not just the fortunate few.
