Mississippi reported 55 births per 1,000 teens aged 15 to 19 in 2010, more than 60 percent above the U.S. average, according to state data released on Tuesday. New Hampshire's rate was less half the national average at 15.7 births for the same age group.

Teen birth rates were higher in the South and Southwest and lower in the Northeast and Upper Midwest, the CDC said, noting that Hispanics and blacks had the highest teen birth rates.

Mississippi teen pregnancy rate highest in US - CDC | Reuters

What does it say that the most conservative state in nation has highest teen brith rates? There is a very clear pattern of southern states of having the highest birth rates, no doubt, states that push the failed abstinence-only model of sex education. Ironic given how it seems so many politicans/policy makers from the South like to interject religion into public policy. Maybe these people will finally wake up and teach compreshensive sex education.

It should also be noted, that the overall teen birth rate is the lowest it has been since 1946.

Good thing they won't let gays marry or adopt because that might damage their image as a god-following conservative state.

From the report:
"Teen birth rates were higher in the South and Southwest and lower in the Northeast and Upper Midwest, the CDC said, noting that Hispanics and blacks had the highest teen birth rates."

I guess this statistic is true because in the northern states teens have their babies at home or in the backseat of cars so they are not counted by the CDC...

Here in DC, I rarely see a young/middle aged hispanic woman without 2 to 4 kids in tow. I'm not surprised by the study's findings.

The only thing racist is pulling the "it's because of the blacks and hispanics!"

Where are the stats about teens having a kid and then trying to pass it off as if their mother had the baby?
