It would definitely be interesting to see how much support could be offered to those who are less fortunate through voluntary contributions to charities.

Wouldn't that be better than having a ridiculously inefficient/corrupt/wasteful govt TAKE our money by force and dole it out to loads and loads of undeserving people?

Does anyone out there think a charity would be this wasteful and allow so many fraudulent recipients?

This is a mission my wife & I support. Very simple. They're working to provide clean water for millions of Africans.

I'd like to encourage anyone here to jump in and support them. I wish Bono would get on board.

Hmmm... "charity" and "taxes."

Do you usually confuse them?

I don't.

I'll try to pay in the smallest amount possible in taxes - because governments are ALWAYS wasteful - but I'll give generously to the right charities.

U2 is a Christian, Irish band; Bono has little to do with Hollywood. He's worked for human rights since the early '80s and has been nominated for
a Nobel Prize. Check out his philanthropic record and eat some crow:

[quote] . As a co-founder or principal in a collection of nonprofit, commercial or hybrid entities aimed at tackling poverty, AIDS and debt relief primarily in Africa, and by making expedient alliances — with corporate players like Gap and Armani, or with conservative politicians like Jesse Helms— Bono has become the face of fusion philanthropy.
