I don't think anyone suggested it was the government driving it up, just that they make a lot more than the oil companies. The taxes are static amounts except in a few states where a sales tax is also applied in addition to the excise taxes. As the price at the pump goes up the percentage drops. Vice verse if gas is cheap the government makes a very good percentage. When gas was $2 a gallon they were making 25%.
You must not be reading the posts on this forum. Every thing that goes wrong is Obama's fault. Have you not heard that...gas prices no difference.

Seems to me what is good for the goose is good for the gander.. When gasoline prices went up during the Bush administration, it was all his fault. Now they have gone up during the Obama administration.. Follows suit, it is Obamas fault.
hotair2: If Exxon is doing that well, buy their stock. That will entitle you to attend the shareholders' meeting and let them know your opinion of their policies and politics. Get your friends to buy their stock. Organize a bloc of like-minded people to attend their meetings.
That would require them to spend their own money, the left only wants to spend everyone elses money.
I and other owners of Exxon have $400 Billion dollars in equity invested to bring you a gallon of gas every time you need one, in every corner of this great land, at any time of your choosing. You do not need to lease prospective sites, drill wells, own refineries, pipelines, transportation, and everything else that goes into making this miracle possible.
How much money do you think we should make for providing this valuable and necessary service?
Very good graph to show that it is not the govt. that is driving up the cost of fuel.
The deficits are hurting the value of the dollar which makes imports more expensive. Then we get the uneducated running about blaming the oil companies for needing more of our devalued dollars for their product.
Oh, well...that's about as honest as showing the dollars of profit for one of the largest companies in the world instead of showing it as a %.
It's like saying straight drivers are much worse than gay drivers in the US because they have wayyyyyy more total accidents.
