Because they are. African Americans are a distinct American ethnic and cultural group, not an immigrant one. We've discussed this ad nauseum here.

Many Asian Americans reject that designation, preferring their country of ancestry (Japanese American, Korean American etc.) while white folk who even say they have an ethnic background never use European American.

Even the "culture" part is weird. A German whose Black is still German in culture. Except for skin color, they don't have a thing in common with most American Blacks.

Right......and so they are Germans of African ancestry, or Afro-Germans. Not African Americans. Not all Blacks are African American, but all African Americans are Black.

Secondly, the Afrikaners (the mixture of the first three) have been in South Africa 350 years and have a distinct language and culture. They are not "Dutch" anymore. Genetic testing has shown they on average have about 7% African blood, mostly from mixing with the San people (which also produced the Cape Coloureds - a more obvious mixed race people). Thirdly, there are people of both African, Caribbean and South Asian ancestry in the House of Commons. Its conceivable that one could become Prime Minister one day (since the head of the winning party becomes Prime Minister). There's definitely no prohibition regarding that and Britain has already had a Jewish PM in the 19th Century (Disraeli) and they aren't indigenous to Europe or Britain.

From everything I've read about Helen Zille she'd make a better President of SA than anyone the ANC has fielded since Mandela.
It's comical how Europeans define and redefine black as it suits you. Once I read a book by a Kenyan who was ecstatic because, as a Masai, he was characterized as a Nilotic "Caucasoid". I'm not interested in how whites classify us. Boers will never be African. 7% of African blood does not an African make.

Black Africans made it all the way to the Phillipines and Australia. You really think we couldn't make it the southern tip of Africa?

"White folk" can't use European American or even be proud of their European heritage because that would be perceived as racist by self-hating whites and minorities.

"Black Africans made it all the way to the Phillipines and Australia. You really think we couldn't make it the southern tip of Africa?"

Africans still haven't made it out of the stone age.

White folk have no need to use the term European American because they know what countries their ancestors came from. Since European culture is promoted in this country and since there are plenty of ethnic celebrations in this country for God knows how many ethnic groups (Columbus Day, Bastille Day, Oktoberfest, Kosciuszko Day, etc., etc.) I find it hard to believe that white people don't often exercise their ethnic pride.

By the standards of that idiotic post, we're all in the stone age.

This doesn't......sit right with me. We've all seen the effects of "white leadership" in South Africa. Not a good look.

As if white leadership could be any worse than black leadership in South Africa.
