This has nothing to do with the birther movement,

FactCheck.org : Obama’s Kenyan Citizenship?

In other words, at the time of his birth, Barack Obama Jr. was both a U.S. citizen (by virtue of being born in Hawaii) and a citizen of the United Kingdom and Colonies (or the UKC) by virtue of being born to a father who was a citizen of the UKC.

a branch of the birther movement claim you can't be eligible for president if you have "divided allegiances" ( dual citizenship ). many birthers have claimed that obama was ineligible due to his having british/kenyan citizenship thru his father and/or the belief that he became an indonesian citizen ( which is contradicted by US and indonesian law ).

so, yes, bachmann gaining another citizenship is relevant to birtherism/presidential eligibility debate.

A lot of people wring their hands over the difference between being eligible for citizenship and having citizenship recognized.

Under almost all national laws that grant citizenship jus sanguinis (by blood) the citizenship is automatic at birth. But to access the benefits of that citizenship, one must of course prove to the country of citizenship that you are in fact eligible. As a result, one can be a dual citizen without even knowing it, but it wouldn't matter since the country involved wouldn't know either.

So yes... he was actually a dual citizen. Britain and Kenya wouldn't have even known about it however. He probably didn't either.

This smells fishy to me. Now suddenly she's getting a Swiss citizenship - what other international allegiances does she have? I demand to see the long form of her birth certificate!
