I recently heard an argument presented in favor of legalizing cannibalism. The advocate cited world hunger statistics and the lack of meat in the diets of starving individuals. The proposed solution was to allow for donation of ones body after death for the purpose of being used as food - an interesting variation on the organ donor movement.
What do you think? Would you support legislation that allowed for a person to freely give their remains for human consumption uses? Would you resort to cannibalism if you were starving? And if you object morally to the concept - what is your source of moral truth?
We have enough animal meat to go around. I can't believe every piece of meat that is prepared for human consumption is actually consumed. And there are parts of animals a lot of people, myself included, will not eat.
[not to mention the meat that goes into dog and cat food]

I don't think that the intent is for "large amounts of human flesh" to be consumed. The idea is that the human meat would be stored for use as emergency rations - especially in areas where people are dying from malnutrition(e.g. Africa). Ideally, the human meat would not need to be used - but it's presence would help promote survival until better fare could be provided.
It's an emergency everyday in some parts of Africa. The supply would have to be enormous.
[and then there's the cost of storage and transport]
Chemicals and meds in the body? Those are just additives and preservatives.
[avoidable, perhaps, if we eat 'em young]
How young? (Ok - I promise to not combine this topic with the abortion issue).
