Well Ireland's austerity is working well for Australia and New Zealand with well trained experienced professionals leaving Ireland for Aus. or NZ.
It will be interesting if the USA goes down the path of harsh austerity, it will give us a lot of liberal professionals to pick and choose from.
Sorry conservatives who are of course religious; would not be comfortable in countries where the majority non-religion is being a heathen who spends Sundays fishing instead of being on our knees.

Wow!

This must really be a shock for you. Somebody is actually trying to get into New Zealand for once.

Explain to me how come I have found so many Kiwis in the United States, Canada, and Australia. What is your country's excuse for nobody wanting to live there?

I hear stories that Australia and New Zealand are pretty immigrant friendly, even to Americans. If I could talk the wife into moving half way across the world from her family, I'd probably go down there and try my luck for a few years. The food is terrible (at least the cuisine I've had), but everything else seems nice and in order.

I am not him, but I can answer the question. New Zealand was in the past a socialistic country, that was very dependant on trade with UK, and that didn't work out very well. When UK joined the EU, they also crushed the NZ economy.

Luckily, New Zealand did reforms and is getting better. However, wages are still low. That is mostly due to the past, and the distance from the large markets. But, New Zealand has recently got a good market share with China, and other western countries have been declining.

It is not true that no one wants to live in New Zealand. Since the end of the 90s, New Zealand has had a net migration. Most of those people are qualified. That is a lot better than many European countries who would have a large negative numbers if they subtracted the number of unqualified immigrants.

BTW nzrugby, I am a conservative and I am very comfortable in New Zealand. However, I am not very religious. You may not know this, but New Zealand is actually quite right wing. John Key reduced top marginal rate to 35%. In France, they elected a guy who wanted to increase the marginal tax rate to 75%.

How can you have austerity without main street deregulation? The whole pt. of govt spending is to cover up the consequences of govt good intentions.

Bang on, of course with a population of four million we do not have the advantage of scale that even Australia has.

In the seventies we could have given East Germany lessons in complete socialism, that was all cleared away in 1984 by surprise, a left wing government, example, farm subsidies were dumped over night, harsh ,but it had to be done.

We find with a tax rate of between 30 and 35% people do not put their energy into hiding their income from the tax man and so we get people wanting to earn more and keep the majority of it.

By conservative I mean the loud live by the bible types.

Our immigration at this time works on the principle of do you have skills we need and want, I'm a dual NZ/Aussie national and their immigration is much the same.

Expensive My 2000ft house in a small city of 200,000 in a good area is worth around NZ $450,000, but rates/property taxes are cheap, mine are $2500 per annum.

Our school education, police, are all paid out of general government taxation along of course with universal health care.

Nope, no death panels
