Yes, the original AP article didnt include it, but the AP isnt the "standard" for news, its just one source.

My guess would be that he felt it beneficial to be Kenyan born in the earlier part of his career and Hawaii born when he acquired presidential aspirations. Not unknown for people to lie about themselves to further their careers. Most just try and cover up embarrassing moments from their past. Some fabricate their past history.
