For some reason this story really makes me chuckle--strange bedfellows factor, I guess. Our Democratic Gov. Christine Gregoire pushed for and got a 'gay marriage' law. She had been ambivalent about 'gay marriage' in the past, The law did not do much since we already had a 'domestic partnership' law. Nonetheless she found herself immersed in accolades. In other words, kind of a microcosm of the recent announcement by Pres. Obama.
We have in WA a process by which any citizen can move to overturn a new law. Collect enough signatures and the law goes on the ballot to be repealed or upheld by voters. Activists now say they have enough to get on the ballot. Support has come from an unlikely source WA Muslims:
Democrats have been running a quiet UTR campaign for some time seeking to add Muslims as yet another voting block, one with a huge demographic growth potential. Now all that painstaking work, alll those random sound bites, all that cultivation, up in smoke.
I think it's great. The more we see of this irrational religious bigotry and extremism against gays and lesbians, the more that moderate and rational people who wouldn't normally think about gay 'issues' too much, get pissed at the extremists trying to control other peoples lives.
Especially when the 'smear and fear' tactics of these anti-gay 'crusaders' are so dishonest - as they always prove to be.
There are plenty of gay Christians. There are plenty of Christians who truly follow the teachings of Christ.
I don't think gay people 'hate' Christians.
But I imagine they hate the bigotry, ignorance, hypocrisy, and deliberately dishonest 'smear and fear' crusades of certain 'so-called' Christians who are far more like the Pharisees Jesus called "Hypocrites!, Blind Fools!, Brood of vipers!" in Matthew 23.
Right, and Christians don't hate gays either, but the gays can't stop calling them names just because they don't agree on the issue of gay marriage.
Certain so called Christians absolutely show their hatred of gays and lesbians. They are the ones who call all gay people perverts, deviants, pedophiles, immoral, diseased etc.
The 'names' that gay people might call these "Christians" are quite apt:
"Hypocrites, blind bigots, ignorant haters" Hmmm...sounds something like what Jesus called the Pharisees who those "Christian" gay haters resemble so much.
Why do married hetereosexual couples get rights that single hetereosexual couples don't?
Why do you support the discrimination of single hetereosexuals but get all upset when we discriminate against single homosexuals?
Um.... what is a 'single heterosexual couple' anyway? That makes absolutely no sense.
Can you tell me any of the protections, responsibilities and benefits that a married couple have with a marriage contract that can even APPLY to a single person?
For example, do you want the protection of being able to visit yourself when you are in hospital and make medical decisions for yourself when you are in a coma?
By they way, you have the choice to get married or not anyway.
Why is this a surprise? This is a religion that embraces violence, and whose teachings instruct its followers to "kill the infidels." At least Christians, like the preacher in North Carolina can easlily be called out as hypocrites, swaying from the basic teachings of Christ, when they embrace killing gays and lesbians.
Judaism was the first religion against gay marriage
