What would it truly take to end the "War on Drugs"?

How can we regain our liberty from the government when they have so many jobs wrapped up into it?

We could start by immediately ending the federal prohibition of marijuana, and go from there.

The current New Yorker has an interesting article about incarceration rates, etc., including discussion about how present laws, including those concerning marijuana, have led to our present overcrowding.

The article was also interesting in its description of how the largest private prison corporation has its own lobbiests, I guess to lobby to keep the marijuana laws on the books, so as to not mess with the profits.

I read just this morning that George Soros was one of the earliest speakers against the War on Drugs. I wonder if he thinks the American will can be destroyed with getting more drugs into the hands of the people. I will be watching who posts these war on drugs posts from now on to see possible supporters of Soros and what he wants for us.

Well roy, I support small government, and ending the nanny state BS in this country, and not having the government or anyone else telling people what they can and cannot consume!

One of the earliest? I think you have to go back farther than him for that. Anyone with a brain has been speaking out for a long time and nobody wants it becasue it will destroy America but becaue America has gone stupid about it and needs to shake it off.

Milton Friedman was one of the earliest supporters for ending the drug war. Soros approval of it just proves that even a blind frog occassionally captures a fly.

Pharmaceutical companies and Prison corporations/developers lobby hard to keep Marijuana illegal. The prohibition has been based on lies and propaganda from the very beginning.

Marijuana in its natural form remains illegal but Pharmaceutical companies, who lobby to keep it illegal, can produce and sell marijuana-derived drugs legally.
This level of hypocrisy is downright insulting.

True, but more Americans are waking up to the BS spewed about marijuana. My state is getting really close to possibly getting medical marijuana on the ballot. It may not pass, and I don't expect it to, as legalizing casinos here took several times to pass before it finally did, but it isn't going to go away! Sooner or later.....
