The terrorists / Muslims one: People of intelligence recognize that while Islamic terrorism must be stopped, it's not fair to persecute all Muslims. Most Muslims are not terrorists. This would be like persecuting all Christians because a small minority of Christians somewhere do something stupid. And so that's why we should be vigilant against a backlash against people who don't deserve it.
The rich / taxes one: We've been through this before. It's not just the percentage relative to the total taxpayers that counts, it's the percentage relative to your income. I'm all for the argument that even low earners should pay something in, but we shouldn't have a situation where the middle class and upper middle class are burdened by a much heavier tax rate proportional to their income than the top of the wealth spectrum, who have access to many tricks to whittle down their taxes to very thin rates. While we're at it, we should revise the tax code to get rid of all these deductions, which should allow us to lower tax rates across the board.

Very stupid to burden the poor with more taxes and give the rich more money. Very very stupid.
That sentence shows how twisted a lot of peoples thinking is. It wouldn't be giving the rich more money. It would be letting them actually keep more of their own money that they earned. Everyone paying the same percentage is fair.

Having a Black President, etc. doesn't automatically erase the racism many people do face day-to-day. That's like saying because Stevie Wonder is famous, blind people are not discriminated against, never mind the 70% unemployment rate.
