Depends on your definition of inner city. Archie Bunker fit the mold you described well. Most of those types have moved to the suburbs, but there are some left.

Wow.. I guess you like to show how the Democrats are still racist.. I guess I should just say yes massa and take my beating from you...

You do not own my vote, you do not own my families vote, we are Republicans and we are proud of it. We do not cater to the Democrats, you know the party that thinks black people are less human then white, the party that voted against civil rights, the party that enacted the jim crow laws, the party that now claims welfare reform is against blacks, why? because they feel blacks need government help to succeed in life.

And that's precisely what the excerpts I posted and the entire articles mention.

They're a potential opportunity not a take it for granted guarantee.

Here in Chicago, the neighborhoods closest to the inner city are becoming yuppie zones, and the outskirts are become ghettos.

Gentrification is a mother....

Well, at least you have one thing in common with most Republicans, is that you sound like you're still stuck in the 50's! That, and you've obviously bought the whole GOP narrative that the problem isn't a lack of opportunity that's holding folks down, its really due to "Guvmint dependence"!

Oh sure, we all get the part about Southerners and racism, regardless which era or party they decided to hang with at any given time. And it's true, Dems once used to court the "southern vote", just as the GOP does now, with its "new & improved" version of Lee Atwater's infamous Southern Strategy, and all the swell "code words" and "dog whistles", like states rights, welfare queens, the food-stamp President, etc..

Which is really the whole point isn't it.... who's still doing that now? And please explain again how you think that's in the best interests of African-Americans in the South, or anywhere (or let alone why anyone would support folks who call their POTUS an "uppity muslim socialist Kenyan"...)?!

BTW, you're also not one of those crazy-azz "black birthers" are you?!!

The funny thing is Archie was prob never a republican due to a myriad of factors. It's all smoke and mirrors, folks. I'd register libertarian before voting for either vulture party.

The partisan bickering is smoke and mirrors. Each party has had their 'at bats' through the years and yet here we are. Both parties seem inept at undoing the un-Godly horrors the other party is responsible for. It is a broken record, especially on C-D. Look at the thread titles. Red state this, Liberatards that, etc.. All that division and the results are what? We have finger pointed our way into a heck of a mess.

Definitely can't take us independents for granted.

"In 2008, President Barack Obama won 52 percent of the independent vote, according to national exit polls, which was one percentage less than his overall total. Senator John McCain of Arizona, his Republican opponent, collected 44 percent of the independent vote -- 2 points less than his overall total. Independents represented 29 percent of the total electorate that year.

In 2006, independents backed Democrats by an 18-percentage- point margin nationwide in House races, handing the party control of the chamber for the first time in 12 years. In 2010, they backed Republicans over Democrats in House races by a 19- point margin, as Republicans regained the chamber’s majority."

And the funny thing is, you know my girl does volunteer work here and almost 1/3rd of the people that show up for food are white women with kids. Lots of white families here on Medi-Cal too. These programs are a lifeline to many working and poor whites. The kind you find in Riverside. But often they are fooled into thinking the blacks and Mexicans are "taking our jobs" and they vote Republican. To me, it never makes sense to hurt yourself just so you can hurt somebody else too.
But there is no shortage of inner city, blue collar whites in Portland and yet it is 80 percent democratic.
