Correct, because if the government isn't collecting enough revenue, it will stop spending. That's why we've had balanced budgets forever. It can't spend money it doesn't have, right?

America will collapse.
Even if fed sales tax revenues will equal those from income tax (and the percentage needed may exceed 25%) it will be an incentive to stop spending. That in turn, equals the end of our economic system.

I think it is very problematic that almost 50 percent of Americans pay no taxes. It is also problematic that many receive a "refund" of more money than they have paid in. It's just another form of income redistribution and ought to called what it is instead of a refund. If I had my way, everyone would pay at least a dollar, even if they earned nothing. People should feel they have an obligation to support their nation. That said, a flat tax or national sales tax unfairly impact the poor. It is so much easier to afford $100 if you make $1,000 a week than $10 if you make $100 a week.

If many of them can afford a pack of cigarettes per day(avg $8), then they can afford the $10 per week.

There is nary a single functioning adult in this country who does not pay taxes.

I'm interested in this concept of paying for things with money when one has no money, mostly because if you can somehow produce money out of nothing to pay for things, you can also produce money out of nothing and not have to pay anyone for it.

Wait a second, do you work on Wall Street?

Maybe the government can just get our whole pay by direct deposit and return to us the part that they think we need......likely 15%.

Maybe the tax we pay on our SS tax can be increased too while they are at it.

A flat tax is an income tax, not a sales tax, buying things in Canada or Mexico won't save them a penny.

I'm in favor of a flat tax, on all income including capital gains. No hiding it overseas.
