Bingo. You can make your way in life in spite of the government.
That's what "going Galt" is all about. You can't totally remove yourself from the system but you can get as far away from it as you can.

A government is only as powerful as the people let it. And dependency on it keeps it in power and gives it more power. A people that turn to the government and wait for a government to pave their way through life will always be dependent and subservient to that government. The bigger and more powerful a government becomes the more money it needs to function which leaves less and less that actually go back to the people.

The very first thing you can to to "buck the system" is to get yourself out of debt and live below your means so you have a cash cushion to tide you over in bad times.

Really..that would be a 100% purge of DC. That will NEVER happen because you don't have enough money.

He who has the money gets to make the rules.

Chart: Nearly Half of All Americans Don't Pay Income Taxes

Also, if the government stops fraud on the various federal programs, including those filing income tax statements using others ID, we might get out of debt. Why are we fighting about the higher income people paying more taxes when most Americans pay nothing?
If business wants to lower their tax rates, they can do a million different things such as hiring more workers/equipment, pretty much just spend it. The taxes they pay is on their profit at the end of the year, I have no pity on that being taxed. Lowering their taxes will not bring things back here.

No business out there pays the actual tax rate.

Don't take my saying you are a bit naive negatively.. Government will not be reformed. It has grown to large to reform and our representatives are corrupted before they find out where the restrooms are at. You can push out anyone you like, but the fact is those who replace them will be corrupted post haste. If the framers could see what their vision has become they would roll over in their graves. The only answer we as a people have left is to take matters into our own hands. The government was never designed to take care of the people. It was originally designed to allow the people the opportunity to take care of themselves. Through over regulation and taxation, our government has enslaved us. More government never improves our condition, it only serves to tighten their bonds upon us.

Wish there was a simple answer. The problem is our tax codes are so intertwined. They are a mess. Some politician had a suggestion to lower taxes by a half a percent for people and business over a period of ten years. It looked promising, but, someone will just find a loophole to get by it.

Higher taxes stifle economic growth. Something that well-spoken and clean idiot squatting in the White House will never get.

That's because his forte is "campaigning" not leadership.

I didn't read all these replies and I may be (likely am) repeating what someone else said. Businesses never actually pay taxes. They are simply costs of doing business that get passed on to consumers. In the end individuals pay all taxes.

After reading the replies, the general consensus is that most people want companies to have lower taxes but no-one really defended the individual having lower or higher taxes. Our wonderful government has put us in a hole that is almost too complicated to get out of, we've let everyone (poor, rich, small business, corporations) take advantage of it, now we're going to pay. If we were stiff in the past about businesses paying the tax rate that is implemented now rather than letting them have dozens upon dozens of loopholes, we would not have the problem we have today. Same applies to individuals. The government is always tweaking with something attempting to make it perfect but in the end it messes us all up. A example of that is tax-cuts for the poor, middle class, and rich, we should've just left everything how it was; now were all paying for these tax-breaks today, tomorrow, and then some. Just because the nation is doing prosperous at one moment doesn't mean it'll be that way forever, and China has realized that. In the future, in times of prosperity (a budget surplus, maybe $1 trillion debt, and 4% unemployment) the government should not say "well hey, we're doing fine now; let's lower taxes" because when those times of prosperity are over everyone will complain about who deserves to pay higher taxes. Just leave it alone, that's true capitalism.
