I've seen countless times (typically in the restaurant, fast food sector) where a minority owns a business but they only have thier own race working in the establishment. Here in Montgomery County, MD we have plenty of 7/11's owned by Ethiopians and that's the only race that works there; no exaggeration. I've never seen a Caucasian, African-American, Asian, etc work at a 7/11 around here. Same applies for Chinese restaurants, they only have Chinese people working there. So do minorities have to comply with Affarmative Action or because they are the minority it's ok for them to only hire their race?
Thank You

I want Italians in an Italian restaurant. You know they are related because they are always yelling at each other. There's a place around here called Father Murphy's Pizza. I won't even go in it to see who's working there. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't eat at a Chinese restaurant called Mohammed's Palace if I saw all Arabs running the place, either. That would be the customer perspective, not the job hunter perspective.
But 7/11 is nothing special. They all have the same stuff. If they are advertising jobs and then not hiring some people because of their nationality/race, then there is a problem but if they just give jobs to people they know (friends/relatives), I don't have a problem with it.
I don't think you need an affirmative action plan unless you do business with the government. You can't discriminate in hiring, but I think that it is tough to prove for a small business with only a few employees. When I owned a small business, I had only myself and my partner working at first and we were both white females. When we hired two more employees, they were also white women, but we did not have any others applying for the jobs as they were part time and designed to allow the moms who lived in the neighborhood a little extra pay.
The law covers:
Quote:
Organizations that do business with the federal government or receive federal government funds are required to implement formal affirmative action plans. Still, some choose to do so voluntarily. Find out below when employers must implement AAPs and what those plans should address.
Who says a private business owned by a White person has to comply with Affirmative Action ? News to me.
I think large publicly owned companies usually comply with Affirmative Action laws especially if they are federal contractors in which case it is required by law. They always ask for racial classification after the end of a job application. Really really annoying if you ask me although it is optional. Private companies usually don't have to comply unless they take some kind of federal government contract. Discrimination is banned by the Civil Rights Act although it is usually hard to prove.

Hah, my dad feels the same way. It might be a bit racist but if we're in an unfamiliar town and we want, say, good Indian food we usually ask someone who looks Indian. It's never failed us yet
