I don't think the OP realizes to what degree the addicts go to, to get their fix... they do A LOT in order to find their drugs whether its to the ER or whatnot... and in a lawsuit-society, physicians tend to over-prescribe then under-prescribe because of the fear that they will get sued... You want to help them then CHANGE the laws... give the doctor's the power to make decisions because right now, doctor's don't have the power, the regulations do... and if you don't want to get sued, you follow the regulations... and that means to prescribe drugs to drug seekers.. I suspect Big Pharma is happy with this and had their lobbyists make the rules that we have today...

The degree of addiction is so much more intense than the other pain killers out there and the drug manufacturers knew this when they marketed the meds to docs.
Pharmacies are not being robbed at gun point for percocets, stadol, or benzodiazepams, they are being robbed for OxyContin. We knwo a pharmacist that was called at home from a "security" company because the alarm at work was going off...he was smart enough to call the police and when they got there a group of guys was waiting in a car with weapons. They were luring him there for OxyContin.
