I've often wondered this. If in 1946 if Canada and the US or Mexico and the US would have taken a border territory and made a country for Israel. I have no idea if this would have worked or if the Israelis would have even wanted to come here. Would the Mid East be a more peaceful place today?

Are there Jewish holy sites in North America or Israel? That should answer your question.

The Communists tried to create a Jewish "homeland" in far eastern Siberia. It wasn't exactly a roaring success.

Not a good idea.

The ancient land of Judea is in modern day Israel. It is the ancestral homeland of the Jewish people.

The suggestion presumes the Jews in Israel magically appeared in the year 1946; it ignores the fact that some Jewish communities were never exiled by the Romans and have occupied that part of the world for 2,000 years. Even after it was conquered by Muslims hundreds of years later, Jews resisted the Christian Crusades alongside their Muslim neighbors. It also does not recognize that Jews have been returning to Eretz Yisrael (Israel) for hundreds of years. Do you think Jewish cities with Jewish names like Tel Aviv, Herzliya, Rishon LeZion suddenly appeared in 1946?

Regardless of one's views of who is right and who is wrong in Arab-Israeli conflict, I think it is a waste of time to ponder fantasies and "what if?" suppositions.

It is far better to face current realities and build a framework where Palestinians can enjoy a free and independent nation and Israelis can maintain their free and independent nation, and that both peoples could live side by side in peaceful co-existence.

No. Everyone over there just needs to learn to get along with their neighbors.

You should check out Michael Chabon's "The Yiddish Policeman's Union"

It's a fictional crime story set in an alternate history where Sitka, Alaska is a large Jewish settlement. Really an entertaining read, especially if you're a fan of Chabon's style.

Both sides might get along better if they left their religions in the Mosque and the Temple and just sold things to each other.

Whoever gave me the rep point is correct. Synagogue is a better term as it is more specific.
