The Rainbow Coalition Evaporates by Steven Malanga, City Journal Winter 2008

I found this very interesting article and the impact Latino (legal and illegal) immigrants have had on black Americans. Although written in 2008, much of it still continues. If you go by the article, it seems that the tide is changing from a time when a large population of black Americans sympathized with immigrants to realizing the impact that immigrants and now having on them in every aspect of their life.

One thing interesting is that with 1.8 million work visas being issued to illegals, and since illlegal immigrants have linked their cause to the civil rights movement, and Affirmative Action was an outcome to the movement, one has to wonder if AA will take a new direction and not be exclusive. With a deferred deportation and a 2 year work visa in hand an "illegal" with a work visa can make claim to every employment law that exists, including discrimination and making claim to Affirmative Action. And as a minority, they can use Affirmative Action to their benefit, possibly displacing black Americans (and up the ladder white Americans) where jobs and applying to universities are concerned.

Quote:
Blacks who support skin color privileges now will be singing a different tune later once government starts discriminating against them once again, this time in favor of Hispanics,” writes columnist and blogger La Shawn Barber.
Immigrants (legal and illegal) displacing black Americans in the job market has been going on for several years now by bringing down wages and by registering complaints where they felt their presence in numbers needed to be higher. Many black people working as janitors in schools and hospitals lost their jobs due to these demands.

Read the effect on black Americans by what is referred to as the Latino Tusami (in the article). Jobs, communities, crime, black flight, education. In 2008 LA had 500 Mexican gangs compared to 200 AA gangs. The latino/black crime ratio leans higher to latinos with more latino crime on blacks.

I also found it interesting that a survey in Durham, NC, showed the opinion that Mexicans have of black people:

Quote:
...........59 percent of Latino immigrants said that few or no blacks were hardworking, and 57 percent said that few or no blacks could be trusted. By contrast, only 9 percent of whites said that blacks weren’t hardworking, and only 10 percent said that they couldn’t be trusted.......
The question is: With amnesty and the issuance of work visas to illegals, will Obama be doing more good for black Americans, or will he be doing more harm? It should be interesting to see how illegals with work visas impact black Americans in the job market over the next two years with the employment laws in their favor and to see how they manipulate AA to their benefit.

Liberal Bloomberg even came out and suggested a solution to the inner cities would be to fill them up with illegals and give the illegals assistance and enticements and rewards.

Liberals want to replace Americans not help Americans.

I think that question was answered by Obama himself when he sent Joe to speak to the NAACP this year.
The minority getting the most attention and help from this administration are the Hispanics.

Obama does what he's told, he cares but his hands are tied... big companies run America, presidents are just well known foot soldiers, everything in this article is true... imo Hispanics are less likely to hire blacks than whites are completely.

blacks need to start moving towards ownership, that's the only way things will change for us... black women still have that safety net in corporate America but black men usually are toast, no one wants or needs to hire then and with more Hispanic and other minorities coming to America theirs no need for black men.

most people think blacks are lazy, older blacks get a pass but the younger generation are looked up as slackers and lazy folks....

other than that black people don't want low paying jobs, that part is true... in Miami I see signs demanding 10 per hour for minimum wage every day.

And also with Obama's kickoff of his campaign done right on the Mexican border. There was a reason that's where he chose to kick off his campaign. How more obvious could he have made it? Standing right on the border and promising the American dream to all who want to come here and get it.

No time for the NAACP but he'll cater to La Raza any way he can.

The best way to destroy stereotypes is to not further them. Stop showing up late to work & appointments, complaining about things which are a regular part of life, feeling entitled to what you haven't already worked towards, etc. I agree ownership is key, but you have to work hard to build that investment capital in the first place...something which doesn't happen when you're that person in the office who can't be depended upon to be a team player.

I predict in a few years that blacks pols like Maxine Waters and the other black congressional reps from southern Cal will be ousted by hispanics.

Black Americans don't care. They care more about sticking it to white racists or some other boogeyman.

But will they care over the next two years when government (again, as stated in the article) and immigrants (especially those who are illegal with work visas) will be sticking it to them? It appears that Mexicans (from the article) are serious racists when it comes to blacks.
