Endless invocations of the late Mary Jo Kopechne in 5, 4, 3...
But try and deflect all you like: the reality is that our future Archbishop, who (among other things) was instrumental in getting anti-gay Prop 8 on the ballot and passed, is a drunk driver.

Way to seize the moral high ground there.
I never understand this from people of power. If you make millions and millions because of celebrity in some form, or your a powerful person like this Archbishop: why not get a driver?
I would think that being an archbishop he has to have an assistant or a team of assistants, why not also have a personal driver and not even risk situations like this.
I can kind of see it as an abuse of power, but still, think people
Ah, so it wasn't his fault that he got pulled over for drunk driving--it was the San Diego police department's fault for pulling him over when he was driving drunk. Got you. So much for that personal responsibility stuff, huh?
Yup, hope he learns a hard lesson. I applaud his efforts around Prop 8, but drinking and driving has got be to punished harshly. Too many innocent victims. Some of them family members of mine.

He could have killed somebody. It would have really been a hoot if he had been caught cruising through Hillcrest, one of SD's gayest neighborhoods.
So? Does an "aggressive DUI sweep" somehow change the seriousness of the man's actions?
No, of course not, but it increased the likelihood of his getting caught. In California you can be charged with DUI with a blood-alcohol content as low as 0.04 - two drinks for a 200 lb man. I've never had a DUI, but I've certainly qualified for one by this standard!
I suggest waiting 'till the facts come out on this.
At least he didn't have a boy in the passenger's seat.
Speaking of Prop 8 Supporter/Child Sex Criminals:
Caleb Douglas Hesse, 52, a teacher for the Morongo Unified School District since 1987 (most recently, he was teaching first grade at Friendly Hills Elementary School in Joshua Tree) and a longtime youth volunteer with the virulently homophobic Evangelical Free Church of Yucca Valley, has reportedly confessed to sexually abusing “numerous underage boys,” reports KESQ. “Authorities believe the crimes occurred between the early 1980’s and as recently as a week ago.”
