OMG. I have read some funny things on CD before, but this has to be the best line ever!!! Can I steal it for my status bar?
I'm laughing so hard, my houseguest just made me tell him what I was laughing about. He's a pansexual man, btw, and when I explained the comment his reply was "straight people do it too." Yep, pretty much. Furthermore, not all homosexuals (especially if we're including lesbians) do anything poop-related. LMAO
"I think we're going to owe smokers a big apology when the homosexual community's own statistics for its health - which it presents when it wants more money for health - are that is has higher rates of drug-taking, of suicide, it has the life of a male reduced by up to 20 years ...The life of smokers is reduced by something like seven to 10 years and yet we tell all our kids at school they shouldn't smoke."
As an aside, it's worth noting that anti-smoking zealots are largely those who have ditched Christian morality but who, nevertheless, need to replace it with a moral crusade of some kind.
And Jim Wallace's ignorant bigoted comments got him ridiculed and lambasted in the Australian media and the Prime Minister cancelling out on addressing the Australia Christian Lobby conference next month.
Jim Wallace makes the case that in countries where same sex marriage is allowed, it has done nothing to lower the statistical rates of drug abuse and suicide among homosexuals.
Then someone else said in the article that acceptance of homosexuals is what will curb the rates of suicide and drug abuse.
Acceptance means compliance and equating same sex relationships as equal to heterosexual relationships, and that's not something some people are willing to grant.
Jim Wallace doesn't 'make a case'. He's just parroting the sort of 'junk' science found on the websites of American anti-gay hates groups like the FRC who have a known history of misrepresenting studies and basically making crap up to support their 'smear and fear' crusades.
Same-sex "marriage" isn't really about marriage, but about normalizing homosexual acts in the public mind. The normalization of aberrant behavior leads to more aberrant behavior.
If it's the same "study" that's been around for years, it's already been debunked. If it is that source, one does not go trolling the death announcements of a big city gay magazine obituary section to compare and contrast! ESPECIALLY anything cited or referencing back to the AIDs era!
MYTH # 4 LGBT people don't live nearly as long as heterosexuals.
THE ARGUMENT
Anti-gay organizations want to promote heterosexuality as the healthier "choice." Furthermore, the purportedly shorter life spans and poorer physical and mental health of gays and lesbians are often offered as reasons why they shouldn't be allowed to adopt or foster children.
THE FACTS
This falsehood can be traced directly to the discredited research of Paul Cameron and his Family Research Institute, specifically a 1994 paper he co-wrote entitled, "The Lifespan of Homosexuals." Using obituaries collected from gay newspapers, he and his two co-authors concluded that gay men died, on average, at 43, compared to an average life expectancy at the time of around 73 for all U.S. men. On the basis of the same obituaries, Cameron also claimed that gay men are 18 times more likely to die in car accidents than heterosexuals, 22 times more likely to die of heart attacks than whites, and 11 times more likely than blacks to die of the same cause. He also concluded that lesbians are 487 times more likely to die of murder, suicide, or accidents than straight women.
Remarkably, these claims have become staples of the anti-gay right and have frequently made their way into far more mainstream venues. For example, William Bennett, education secretary under President Reagan, used Cameron's statistics in a 1997 interview he gave to ABC News' "This Week."
However, like virtually all of his "research," Cameron's methodology is egregiously flawed — most obviously because the sample he selected (the data from the obits) was not remotely statistically representative of the LGBT population as a whole. Even Nicholas Eberstadt, a demographer at the conservative American Enterprise Institute, has called Cameron's methods "just ridiculous."
The fact that the conservative religious right continue to use this de-registered nutcase's 'work' says a lot about their willingness to use lies and deceit to support their anti-gay crusades.
Why is it you people can only ever come up with conservative religious websites as a source instead of legitimate health websites? We've all seen how willing they are to lie and deceive when it comes to smearing gay people.
"New research at San Francisco State University reveals just how common open relationships are among gay men and lesbians in the Bay Area. The Gay Couples Study has followed 556 male couples for three years — about 50 percent of those surveyed have sex outside their relationships, with the knowledge and approval of their partners."
Fascinating article. Monogamy doesn't seem to be high on the agenda for homosexuals who pretend to be married. More here:
"For example, a recent 2012 study of same-sex couples in Great Britain finds that gay and lesbian cohabiting couples are more likely to separate than heterosexual couples. A 2006 study of same sex marriages in Norway and Sweden found that 'divorce risk levels are considerably higher in same-sex marriages' such that Swedish lesbian couples are more than three times as likely to divorce as heterosexual couples, and Swedish gay couples are 1.35 times more likely to divorce (net of controls). Timothy Biblarz and Judith Stacey, two of the most outspoken advocates for same-sex marriage in the U.S. academy, acknowledge that there is more instability among lesbian parents."
From that review: "it is likely that the social hostility, stigma and discrimination that most LGB people experience is at least part of the reason for the higher rates of psychological morbidity observed"
From your link: "These men evidenced greater lifetime prevalence rates of suicide symptoms than men reporting only female partners. However, homosexually/bisexually experienced men were no more likely than exclusively heterosexual men to meet criteria for lifetime diagnosis of other affective disorders"
Have you ever thought that perhaps if people like you stopped your open hostility, discrimination and vilification of GLBT people, they wouldn't be more likely to experience depression, suicide ideation and self-harm?
