Simple question for the right wingers here.

Why is the Right so adamantly afraid that Obama will legalize weed, when alcohol and smoking are incalculably more dangerous and still legal?

How is the War on Drugs any different from Prohibition?

You won't find too much opposition to pot here on CD. These threads are overwhelmingly anti war on drugs when it comes to that.

My personal opinion is that there is an internal resistance when it comes to government and law enforcement. Pot is an easy foot in the door when it comes to criminal investigations. "We smelled marijuana so we busted down the door and searched the house and found....". You know. Kind of like getting Al Capone on tax evasion.

It's hard to give that up when it's such an easy thing to use against anyone you want.

Yep , does take a tool away from law enforcement. Within a yr of it being decriminalized in Mass the state supreme court ruled that the smell of reef is not probable cause to search a car anymore.

A co-worker of mine had a theory, though its a little bit to close to conspiracy.

Illegal drugs is big money. The cabal's in charge of such big money fund efforts to make these drugs illegal.

My guess:
The right's ties to the Evangelicals and the idea that Goverment should be small but enforce their own perception of morality is prevalent.

I'm with Ron Paul . .thats the direction. If you want to do these drugs, no harm no foul. Though the drug should be legislated/taxed in such a way to recover the medical impact.

and corporations should be free to fire you at will, if you are taking a "cosmetic" drug such as Meth or Marijuana.

LOL, Obama is going to legalize weed? He has been worse than Bush on this front, no matter how articulately he lied.

When will we hold our failed representatives accountable? Just because Bush's sheeple have a guidebook of excuses for his atrocities does not mean those that voted for Obama have to do the same. I voted for Obama in 2008 and will never bend my beliefs or distort the truth to protect his image.

"Today, hundreds of dispensaries in states where medical marijuana is legal have closed up shop under federal threat of criminal prosecution and property forfeiture. 'What we’ve seen from Obama, despite repeated statements to the contrary, are attacks that have escalated far beyond what [President] Bush ever did, both in breadth and intensity,”

I didn't know that Republicans were afraid that obama will legalize weed. Where did you get the information about the alcohol and smoking being more dangerous than weed?

You have to go back to FDR and the Democrats that started the illegalization of it in the 30s and ask them why they created the Marijuana Tax Act. Some people believe the reason was based from a deal between the Dems and the Dupont company because they did not want hemp products to become a major competitor against the company. They got people to jump on their band wagon by vilifying the drug by lacing it with racial hate. That was easy to do because most of the people that smoked it back then were black. They used the media to spread tales of how blacks on marijuana robbed, raped, and killed people. The 30's was the basis for the demonization of the drug. Pretty interesting stories if you look it up. Hope that helps.
