Personally, I don't think we are out of the woods yet, but I do think we will hit bottom this winter in housing, and some places have already. Then the construction and RE industry will begin rebuilding. This will cause a virtuous cycle that will play out over several years, increasing employment, improving middle class net worth, etc.
I hope Obama will get reelected because housing has been the biggest albatross on the economy, and we'll get to see him get some credit for his efforts. If Romney wins, folks will assume he waved a magic wand and saved housing, which would be a totally bogus conclusion. It will happen in either case.
They have just one goal and that is to make Obama and the idea of Obama one term. They have hoped for American failure and suffering for the last 4 years.
Unless people have jobs, the housing market is going nowhere unless Obama makes the banks grant poor risk loans to people who will default on their mortgages. that would be an endless loop enabled by Barney Frank denying Freddie and Fannie were not solvent.
Like the political activist and media propagandist who claimed Corey Booker turned around Newark, NJ because technically one month out of 40 some odd years Newark theoretically went without a murder.

You know that's a darn lie.....
