I have always had a tough time with the idea of flip flopping. In essence, applying such a label attaches a negative stigma because it suggests that a candidate/politician is fickle and changes his/her position at whim.
However, I would strongly HOPE that individuals are capable of learning. Sometimes, new information requires a position to be changed. To me, this is NOT flip flopping - rather it is a quality I appreciate.
Now, I do NOT know whether Romney is just trying to appease part of the masses - but I wouldn't be surprised, given the negative fallout after his comments were made public. In reality, my first thought was that this was a very expected reaction from someone who had been caught doing or saying something outrageous. It certainly doesn't make me see Romney in a better light.
To me, it stinks: He said what he said. Suddenly he finds himself enlightened? By what? Oh, I know, the prospect of having alienated even more voters.
In regards to Romney, show me one thing he stands for on one day, and I will show you how he stands for the opposite on another day.
The only people supporting him are the deluded that think there is any difference between him and Obama.
They both serve the same masters and it AIN'T the American People.
He only flip-flipped on this because his poll numbers were down so much and he has nothing to lose by trying it. He still has major disdain and disgust for 47% of Americans. His flip-flop is just another name for lying.

By joe i think she has got it! Thanks i agree. A flip is a flop
It is not a flip flop it is creatively interpreted by Dems for political adbvantage. it is more of a literal vs figurative interpretation.
It is very frustrating to hear obama, a lawyer and wordsmith, use this blanket techinque to charge MR with eliminating Dodd-Frank, EPA regs and Obamacare and concluding that all elelments, good and bad will be eliminated. MR wants to poison everyone. MR wants to take away all medical benefits from the poor and seniors, MR wants to allow the banks to operate without any regulations. MR wants to tax the middle class to save the 'rich'.
Really, this is the stuff of dark age politics and corruption. who wants a leader who resorts to distortion to win support? Who wants a leader who has staffed his administration with liars. DWS and Stephanie Cutter. absolute proven liars the media just chose to ignore.
Ony a mindless minion or paid rabid political strategist would engage in such despicable behavior. It is crystal clear the targeted audience for this strategy is the less than informed, non critical thinking portion of the electorate.
This absolute, zero threshold strategy launched a socio-political agenda applied to sex, gender and race politics. It creates an equivalence between croos burner, lynch mobs and some guy in a bar telling a joke about a woman.
To see a flip flop see any one of Obama's back flips available by the dozen on utube. No creative interpretive ability required.
He defended his statement for quite awhile and then realized he was totally wrong. I need that explained to me.
What made him realize this?
It's the many faces of Mitt,,,, if you don't like what he said today, just wait a few more and he's have another answer for you. Who knows what he stands for anymore, he has answers for everything but never the same answer.
Romney told the truth when he made his 47% remarks.
And it's rather hypocritical to accuse him of flip-flopping when you don't hold Obama accountable for saying that if he doesn't turn the economy around by his third year he wouldn't deserve re-election.

You hit the nail on the head, after his gaffe, and the firestorm afterwards, he'd figure he would go into appeasement phase, just one more flip flop.
Geez, people should be getting used to him by now. One important note though: don't believe anything this man has to say.
