I would like it myself, we gave it a try many years ago but the wife got bored and when she got bored she spent money, she went back to work
Thats a potential pitafall for sure. Do you (or did you at the time) have kids? My wife only works part-time now that we have a baby. She also spends more money, although she claims it's for the baby.

It IS for the baby. You're in for a very rude awakening if you don't think kids are expensive, and they just get more expensive the older they get.
That is IDEAL, but few households can afford this luxury.
One of the casualties of women going to work is it kind of caused the cost of living per household to go Up and Up.
So unless you are very wealthy or very frugal it is a dream.
This was an option when middle incomes were in line with expected living expenses and a single income was all one needed to raise a family.
But they aren't anymore for the most part. So it's rarely possible today.
