voters in two states are expected to pass measures to legalize non-medical use of marijuana for the first time. they are expected to easily pass by a comfortable margin. possession of marijuana is currently 'decriminalized' in 14 states. ie: In California if caught with one ounce of pot or less, without a card, the fine is $100.
Washington State and Colorado will be the first in the country to remove all penalties for possession (for up to one ounce for personal use), no medical marijuana card or prescription required. in Colorado you will be allowed to grow up to six marijuana plants for personal use.
its about time. the war on drugs is an epic failure and cops have better things to do than chasing potheads. the war on drugs is a colossal waste of taxpayer dollars.
After Nov. 6th there will surely still be plenty of vacant headed politicians in office out there who will say that won't so much as legalize medical marijuana, because it is a gateway drug.
FOX News is a "gateway drug", that quickly leads to the Blaze, Coulter, Stormfront, et al...
What does Fox news have to do with this discussion?
As for legalizing Marijuana, right now in Colorado it is up something like 9% in the polls, well outside the margin of error, so I would guess yes at least in one state it will be legalized in a few days. How quickly or if that spreads I could not guess but it will be added in the Colorado state constitution if the polls are correct.
Washington state voter here. I have decided to vote against the MJ initiative. Although I would prefer to legalize ALL drugs from pot to heroin, when we're moving health care into the public sector, I have to say "not so fast."
More than 50% of health care costs are due to behavior, and with health care moving into the public sector (i.e. taxpayer-borne) it is necessary to control behavior. CDC - Chronic Disease - At A Glance

I heard Rep Jim McDermott (D, Seattle) interviewed recently. He is an MD and far lefty. The interviewer asked him if ObamaCare would not eventually lead to employers dropping health care coverage, letting employees arrange for their own thru the gov't 'exchanges.' McDermott chuckled and responded that if it did shake out that way, it would be a probable precursor of the "single payer" model that he has always preferred.

Dream on, you grassheads! the Fundamentalist fig-leaf-hangers from the Far Right are merely being supplanted by the Oh!-so-insecure suburban soccer-Mommas from the Land of Political Correctness. And both groups are dumb enough to "think?" that they can schmooze Big Brother/Sister inro getting them what they want without paying a price in the loss of personal liberties.
