They will never cut these people. Nothing ever hits home with the people in government. The presidents, congress people, the senators and the judges wield the power. The other people surround them and keep them in power. How often do their families suffer from crime, hunger, layoffs. Sooner or later someone will bring it home to them. Then they'll ask why it happened.

However, we just voted 8 days ago to continue the transfer of money from poor and middle class of flyover land to the rich of DC-land, so undoubtedly that is what we will get.

Actually Loudon County is in VA, not MD.

While federal workers, and contractors, do make up a large portion of DC area employment there are thousands of police officers, teachers, mechanics, carpenters, plumbers, masons, janitors, waiters, etc. in the Metro DC area. They/we are anything but wealthy.

There are federal employees scattered all over the country. Should they "endure their fair share" too?

OK you caught me on that one. But it's a moot point; VA or MD, it is a DC satellite. I'm sure there are middle-class there, as there are everywhere. That hardly negates the point.

It's the richest county in the nation, and the wealth is not generated from making cars, software, entertainment, or curing cancer. It comes from extracting dollars from people in flyover country who do.

People in the DC area are wealthy due to wealth transfers from other parts of the nation via taxation, absurd levels of federal spending, lobbying, etc: in short, they are an economic burden on this country. Is it time for the DC area to endure their fair share of the recession via cuts from the fiscal cliff? I know cuts will impact people all across the country, but the DC area will also finally share in the suffering if these cuts go through, particularly contractors.
And what would the point of it be? Wouldn't you prefer that the rest of the country *not* suffer?

This reminds me of when people were howling about how union workers get better pay and benefits. "Crabs in a bucket" mentality is crazy, but folks love it.

Anything consumers really wanted done could be done better in the private sector.
And many guv workers do a job that no ones wants them doing in the first place.

I lived in the area for 2 years and I grow so tired of these self-affirmations: "the work we do is important". The DC area is a leech, quit pretending otherwise.
