The US may have a progressive tax system, but progressivity is not the same as redistribution.
Quote:
It is through the spending side that other countries achieve much greater redistribution and reduce inequality to a larger extent than the USA. In fact, the USA has one of least redistributive social security and welfare systems in the OECD – only South Korea is less redistributive. The USA is the only OECD country which reduces inequality more through the direct tax system than through transfer spending. What is important, however, is the combined effect of taxes and spending, and when you put the two together the USA is about the fourth least effective OECD country in terms of reducing inequality
No, the rate is not 4 times the middle class, it is 4 times everybody... that includes the negative rate underclass. And, what about all the 1% spending on lobbyists, etc. got no comment on that, so you attempt to besmirch my credibility. That will only work on the new poster who does not know anything about Leisesturm.

Glad you frinally read the article and conceeded the point.
I came along around the time of JFK and long after him the rate was around 50%, what are you talking about?? As it is our economy is running at all because of people with a net worth of 25M and over. Does this make sense to you? If so, you should be for higher taxes for the wealthy. They are the only ones who have any money!
H
Whatever, the exact rates were, the fact and the salient fact, is that JFK cut tax rates dramatically, and the economy took off so energetically that there was more revenue even at the lower rates. As I recall the top rates were in the 20s.
As far as the rich being the only ones with money, to the degree that is true you can thank Obama and the ObamaRATS who supported him.
It never ceases to amaze me how the backwards thinkers around here (guy like you) always focus on government, government, government.
I am for growing the economy, not the government, I am for the sovereignty of the people, not the supremecy of the ruling elites. Chop the government in half, and then go from there. Pare it down to the bare essentials as specificed in the Constituiton, Defense, Copyrights and Patents, Post Offices/Roads, Regulating International and Interstate Commerce etc., and drop the social programs which have no place in the central government. Require people to stand on their own two feet, out of necessity, and they will stand erect and proudly bring us back from the brink.
Government is NOT the solution, for in many, too many cases, it is the problem.
The Wisdom of the Founds was awesome - embrace it, and stop looking for the next nipple you can jam into your mouth.
I grieve for those millionaires but they do have enough money for a one way plane ticket to Rwanda or Haiti where they may find happiness. Ideally they would choose Haiti where they`ll be closer to their stashed loot in the Cayman Islands.
Have you priced First Class lately? A last-minute trip to Africa is $10k easy. Even Business Class is $5 g's.
It is, in fact, 4.3 times the middle class's tax rate.
Whatfreakingever, 4.3x then. And? What is the difference in income earning between the top 1% and the top 25 - 50%? 4.3x? Not on your freaking life. So really, lets just stop this ******** right here. Save your stats and charts and graphs for the revolution.

The top 1% actually earns LESS than the top 25-50%.
Earnings:
The top 1% earns 16.93% of the income but pays 36.73% of the federal income tax revenue
The top 25-50% earns 20.71% of the income but pays only 10.45% of the federal income tax revenue
The top 1% is paying more than twice their fair share.
The top 25-50% are paying only half of their fair share.
So really, lets just stop this ******** right here. Save your stats and charts and graphs for the revolution.
Facts that prove you wrong are inconvenient, huh?
You can either become informed, or go back to the deceptively manipulative propaganda you've been brainwashed with. Your choice. Are you an enlightened truthseeker or a mindless tool?

Mr. One Dimension, let me help you out.
Take the 430% higher rate, and multiply it by the much-more-than-430% more money the rich make, and you will see just how much actual money the wealth pay in taxes.
Yes, much higher rate (430% higher), times an even-higher income level = beaucoup taxes paid, yet you still find room to Whine.
