The policy of liberalism have created a more unstable, dangerous society. What we need to do is-

1. institutionalize the volatile mentally ill
2. make single parent families illegal
3. demand that discipline be enacted at home
4. demand that education be promoted and supported at home
5. demand that children have part time jobs to gain some responsibility
6. allow corporal punishment in the schools
7. demand some religious indoctrination to gain respect for life
8. demand mandatory gun training for children, such that they understand the destructive force of guns
9. stop running guns to Mexico via programs like "Fast and Furious"
It is funny to note some of the people here crying for gun control had no problems with Fast and Furious. That was one of the craziest governmetn scandals of all time and the media had no interest.

You're lack of understanding comes as no surprise. All of these shooters are from a generation of kids that have grown up in a world dominated by technology. Many kids if not most of them spend a great deal of time interacting with an object instead of each other. You're going to have a detachment from reality and the real world, they aren't talking to people but some username but I'll stop there because I'm sure this is getting over your head at this point.

the reality is liberals are just using this shooting to dump on conservatives. exploiting tragedy is what they do. they aren't interested in real solutions, b/c I do think both mental health screenings and security at schools are things that need to be looked at and they dont' seem itnerested in anything but banning guns while saying they aren't for banning guns. Well, yeah, you are. try being sincere for once.

My question is this, for those who are against further gun regulations: What do you propose should be done -- if anything -- in terms of limiting gun tragedies?

We have read much on here from those who are in favor of more gun control, but I haven't read many answers from 'pro-gun' supporters.
Some common sense.

I love my guns and shooting but it is time to ban semi-automatic weapons.

There is no reason for them, semi-automatic weapons are used only to kill people. If you need an automatic or semi-automatic weapon for a successful hunting expedition maybe you should take up fishing instead?

Five or six round magazines should be plenty adequate. When the second amendment was passed weapons were only single shot due to technology of the day so getting a five or six round magazine should be considered a bonus.

If someone really desires a 30 round magazine or semi-automatic weapons (even if it's an assault weapon) they should be obtainable just like fully automatic machine guns are obtainable today.

You did know you can legally own a fully automatic Bonnie and Clyde machine gun, didn't you? Simply extend the requirements of owning a fully automatic machine gun to semi-automatics and those guns with magazines greater than 5 or 5 rounds capacity. Make the owner completely liable for anything that happens by requiring he post insurance or bond in the amount of say $250,000. The are lethal weapons if if you want to own one you should bear the responsibility. Maybe the bonding companies would place requirements that these semi-automatic and automatic weapons be stored in a secure gun safe you figure? You know, the kind children and disturbed nut cases can't break into?

They only have one "solution": more guns.

More guns apparently equals more safety. When we have guns raining down from the sky all across the land from passing cargo planes, then we will enter the Golden Age of a thousand years of peaceful, utopian harmony. Young children and old people with walkers will celebrate alike by joyfully firing their Sig Sauers into the air.

Default Gun "Lovers": What are your proposals?

I don't really have a proposal.

As is so often the case, a complex issue like this has many facets and the solution will have to approach the problem from multiple angles.

It seems to me that the crux of the matter comes down to keeping weapons out of the hands of unstable, violent individuals. So a solution would have to come from a combination of mental health professionals, law enforcement, and computer information specialists, more than likely. I leave it to the experts in the several fields involved to come up with proposals. I hope they can put together something effective and not leave it to the politicians to morph it into something unworkable.

Ok so if we ban semi-automic weapons, what is going to prevent people from not just using the other types of firearms? They all can kill people, just b/c they prefer semi-automatic right now doesn't mean the others are not just as lethal. I don't understand this point, and you don't really come across as a gun lover.
