The Assault Weapons Ban became law in 1994 with a sunset provision. It applied to only those assualt weapons manufactured after the effective date. During that ten year period, no one came after your guns and the law was not extended to non assualt weapons. There is no basis to extrapolate a potential resurfacing of this act to mean anything more than it meant back in 1994.

As an aside, several states have their own laws to limit/ban certain assault weapons.

Fear does more to drive change and get it done than logic and debate.

The US has become a fear driven model of governing.
Chew on that for a while.

Who do you think you're fooling? Personal accountability and liability are totally anathema to liberals/Democrats, hence the $1 trillion per year social welfare entitlement expenditures.

Yeah right ? That's hypocrisy at it's finest.

It's either "your responsibility" or it's "someone else's fault". Pick one and stick with it for all issues.

Well, that happens to be a "conservative" take on liberals.

Foolishness.

Watching Obama now and he is telling us that he is instituting new Gun Control "policy's" by January 1st.

Obama Quote:" I am prepared to do some very tough things".

Obama has the audacity to say the majority of americans will agree with him...
just like health reform? It's not audacity at all. Obama sees that only those gun nut dummies that cling to their assault rifles need to be convinced or told.
Seems that congress is also getting interested but congress also wants to consider video games and mental health as part of the dialog.

Congressional backing grows for gun control debate - Yahoo! News

people want assault weapons banned again.

It is a very complex matter. By all means, I'm not saying **** happens, move on. 800 or so "kids" die every year going to and from school. That is more of an epidemic, right? How many kids are killed by drunk drivers?

This was a very horrific event. One that we all wish never happened. There is not a person out there that wishes this could be prevented again.

But, because a gun was used, the "we need to regulate guns attitude" is back. This solves nothing.

We need to try to better spot the mentally ill, which could be hard because we cant just grab and test people at random.

I dont have the answers either, but whatever we do must stay within the constitution. We may have to deal with acceptance that bad things do, and will happen again. Sounds
horrible, but its reality.

There's an acticle out there today about the safest schools in America, in Skokie, Illinois.
The town spent $175K on three schools to make them safer from the standpoint of access. This cost does not include the people who are employed to manage the security system and access.

None of these schools would have stood a chance against the NewTown shooter. Best case, it might have maybe slowed him down, a tad.

These schools now intend to replace all windows with bullet resistant glass. Such glass would not have stopped the Newtown shooter, given his weapons. Forgetaboutit if there is more than one shooter as there was in Columbine.
