Oops. They only people outraged about this now are the liberals and the media. Most sane people with common sense, wouldnt take issue with what the NRA said.

we spend millions upon millions each year to make sure our kids get hot meals in school everyday, and few people have a problem with that, but let a conservative suggest a common sense approach to protecting our kids in school and they are vilified. so we cant spend a few million to protect our kids, but we can spend a few million feeding them?

I don't think it is crazy to want to put cops in schools and yes it is hypocritical to support Clinton's plan and then scream bloody murder over the NRA's same plan -- However, I don't like the plan.

A) There are a lot of school buildings it seems pretty difficult to budget in a cop for every building.

B) These killers are insane and plan to die -- so will it deter the shootings that much?

C) A cop is one man and can't cover the entire building, play ground etc...

D) If the shooter knows the cop is there he will be the first target.

These primitives would try to convince the elimination of crossing guards for the toddlers, if in the way of their immediate animal needs.. and desires.

Those are all good points.

I think much of the criticism of LaPierre from left, right, and center, has more to do with his unhinged demeanor and combative tone, and his absolute refusal to accept ANY responsibility on behalf of the gun industry, for the amount of gun violence in this country.

I don't have a problem with assigning one, or preferably two, armed police officers to every public school in the US. Approximately 1/3 of the schools are now so equipped. We have no way of knowing how many potential disasters they have already deterred.

BUT... I also have no delusions this will ever come to pass, as long as the GOP has the House. Know why? Cuz it costs MONEY, and investing in our commonweal, via public schools and citizen safety... not on the TP/GOP agenda

Let's see the GOP put their money where their mouth is by supporting FUNDING putting armed law enforcement officers in schools.

“In general I don’t think that the solution to safety in schools is putting an armed guard because for it to be really effective in my view, from a law enforcement perspective, you have to have an armed guard at every classroom,” he said during an event in Newark Friday morning. “Because if you just have an armed guard at the front door then what if this guy had gone around to the side door? There’s many doors in and out of schools.”

Christie: Armed guards won't make schools safer - NorthJersey.com

Got to agree with the fatman on this one.

I am curious how some would respond to a thread from another Republican Forum: Free Republic from 2008 in regards to the role an LEO would provide to these schools. The LEO would have no constitutional duty to protect the children but to take down the killer and clean up the mess.

Police have no responsibility to protect individuals (reference)

Police have no responsibility to protect individuals

Quote:
It’s true.

The police cannot protect every citizen. and it’s not their job, anyway. The police’s job is retribution. That’s all.

They find the bad guy and get him before he hurts someone else.

We’re each responsible for our own safety.

Sorry.

Quote:
How many times and how many ways can this be stated. In a free nation you have personal responsibility. The government is not the answer to all your problems.
The job of the police is to introduce the ethically challenged to the Criminal Justice System. The outcome of that introduction is not within their control. The responsibility for your individual safety, begins and ends with you. Second Amendment anyone?

Quote:
And we have the obligation to protect ourselves and our families. Therefore any attempt by a fascist government to take away this right must be resisted.

Quote:
It is well established that the police do not owe a duty to protect any individual citizen. Their duty is to the community at large to maintain order and bring to justice those who break the law. That’s pretty much it when it comes to the duties of a law enforcement agency.

So basically, 10 kids could be killed before the perp is taken down, and it won't be his fault, but lets create another avenue for our tax dollars to be stolen and more power taken away from the people.
