Confiscation and "mandatory sales to the state". It appears some are going to push all the way. But dear liberals think all those "kooks" and "bloodthirsty redneck gun lovers" are all crazy for clearing the shelves off. Don't blink or you may wake up with the SS on your porch.

"Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo (D-N.Y.) said Thursday that all options, including confiscation and “mandatory sales to the state,” would be on the table next month when the New York State Legislature debates new gun control measures. The comments were specifically aimed at what might happen should stricter rules be imposed on “assault” weapons and high-capacity magazines.

The governor said he plans on proposing a package of gun legislation in his State of the State address on Jan. 9. “There’s a big difference of opinion on these issues,” Gov. Cuomo said today during a radio interview with Albany’s WGDJ-AM."

It's too bad that willfully violating the Constitution is not a punishable offense. He should get hard time for this outrageous effort.

I think all semi automatic weapons should be banned...Go back to the days when your second amendment was written and only allow what weapons were available then....Single shot muskets.

If that's what our government forces were using today it might be an option.

So I guess you won't mind if these folks with "sense" decide to take more of your rights away? Maybe they like your property and want to "confiscate" it for their kids? I guess you would just thank em and walk away.

That's not the spirit of the Second Amendment and you know it.

Back to the OP, In California, some of our legislators have been talking about doing something similar to this. What I don't think they realize is the tremendous cost. If you figure that most AR style rifles run around $1500-$2000, AKs start around $600 and go much higher, and that the other various specialized rifles are 2000 and up, I think it's safe to say an average value for them is somewhere around $1200. Now that's a guess, but not an unreasonable one (the number could be higher). Now, there are about 1,000,000 of these rifles in California currently. If the state were to forcibly buy them all back, that would cost them 1.2 billion dollars. Considering gun violence is on the decline, and these guns are some of the least used guns in any sort of crime, I want to ask Democrats a question. What's a better use of 1.2 billion dollars: Buying back these weapons from law-abiding citizens or spending it on healthcare, education, social welfare, etc?

Not really a valid argument when you currently can't legally own what government forces are using.

Is there something in the Constitution or it's amendments covering these things? The right to have horses but not cars, maybe? Something specific, like 'the right to keep and bear arms'?
