This subject has been brought up before. It boils down to different cultures, different values. White v. Asian.
The fact that education is and has been part of Asian culture for generations, and the importance of a good education is instilled in Asian children at an early age as opposed to the education that starts at a very early age white children get which would be having the latest mobile, game, brandname sneakers, ipad, just might be the difference? Arranging "play dates"?? Ask an Asian how many "play dates" they had in their life. They probably had limited play time and they certainly had family time, but play dates? I don't think so.
While Asians have their heads buried in books, whites are playing sports and games and think that getting "high score" somehow has "value".
If white people harbor any resentment to Asians succeeding, maybe they should get more serious about education and get on board and stop thinking that being white is a privilege towards an entitlement to a mediocre education in a field of study where there is no demand. We are limited in fields of study because we have lost so much to outsourcing and insourcing due to uneducated/unqualified Americans. Studying in an area where there is a demand, and there is plenty of info out there as to the future growing markets, is the way to go if one wants a future. It would also require one to compete for a job because limited job markets are going to be a highly competitive.
Many White Americans used to think academic excellence was more important than they do now. Our society seems to value stupid things like dancing with the stars, facebook, newest phones (of course they have no clue how they work or built-BTW in China/SA for pennies on the dollar), exploits of the mutant Kardashians, etc.
The idea that Asian-Americans experience discrimination does appear to be supported by the data. The reasons for it are unclear. Historically white competitive colleges have always resisted the new wave/groups that threaten to displace those currently in controlling positions. Admissions tests were introduced when administrators in top positions at Ivy League schools complained that the wealthy men coming to their college were not prepared/bright. But when they instituted (first) achievement tests and (then) aptitude tests to screen students the results yielded too many (from their standpoint) Jews so they moved to a "holistic" process that allowed more discretion to screen out applicants who did not have the correct experiences (membership to exclusive clubs, etc). Eventually Jews who were often closed out of other occupations and whose culture often includes a focus on education, moved into key positions in the Ivy League schools. Now some critics are complaining that Jews are overrepresented in competitive academic settings. I am not enough of a statistician to make that determination. There is the claim that now the holistic admissions process is being used to prevent an increase in the number of Asian-Americans and there does appear to be some support for that concern.
Racist liberals trying to pit two cultures/races against one another again.
United we stand, divided we fall.
Perhaps Asian-Americans should re-think their loyalty to the Democrat party, since it was their racist "diversity" quota policies in higher education that works against asians instead of for them.

I look forward to your scoldings of right-wingers when they initiate threads about blacks taking university spots or jobs away from whites. Dirty race-card players, they are.
My wife is Aisan and a Tiger mom. The frightenning things she tells our children to emphasize how important school is. And they both do really well, we are very involved parents

Anyone who uses the term "tiger mom" oughta be neutered.
FYI, Asians are discriminated against as well. Especially poor asians, who are much less likely to speak up due to language barriers, cultural barriers and a fear of being deported.
You should see the slums in SF's chinatown where new and poor immigrants live. And their are many incidents where Chinese workers are underpaid and not paid minimum wage.
Even the basic premise that Asians are "smart and hardworking" is racist, and flies counter to so-called American individualism. More evidence that only white people are individuals. Everyone else represents their group.
Stereotyping, whether positive or negative, still sucks.
