On New Year’s Day, five on duty detectives of the Belleville, Illinois police department went to a local Denny’s Restaurant for a meal. As they were eating, a manager of the restaurant approached the table and told one of the detectives that she had to take her gun outside the restaurant. The detectives displayed their badges and showed the manager the police radios setting on the table. However, the manager insisted that the gun had to leave the premises because another customer complained that it made her nervous. He told them that only uniformed officers were allowed to carry a gun inside the restaurant.

This happened because another customer complained about a customer with a gun. The manager should have told that customer the group of people at that particular table were all police detectives and were authorized to have guns in the restaurant, but he used poor judgement instead and caused all of the police officers to leave. Since this incident, the police department chief put the restaurant 'off-limits' to all on duty officer

Good luck getting any response to a robbery for both the restaurant and the whining customer.

The chief should have been embarrassed that a diner made his detective. When I got my CCW I was taught that concealed meant just that--concealed. If someone can detect your gun, you've blown it.'

That said, I once had a job as a restaurant shift mgr, and I always comped the local police. Total security in exchange for the price of a meal, what a deal. Every bad guy in town knew that we were not the place to rob. The waitresses liked it too, because the cops would tip heavy, possibly out of guilt for getting a free meal.

Both sides are being stupid here.

From my link....
"and the others had badges hanging from a chain around their necks, The Belleville News-Democrat said Wednesday.
The manager told a detective the restaurant had a policy that only uniformed officers could carry firearms inside and asked her to remove her gun or leave the premises. The detectives left the restaurant.

If I owned a business, I'd have a no gun policy. I don't see the issue here.
