So, if everywhere you went, you heard the Islamic call to prayer, saw the spires of hundreds of mosques, inverted crosses and satanic symbols, you'd just go about your day?
Somehow, I doubt it.
Actually I agree with you that he probably didn't exist other than as a character in a teaching story which grew into a religion.
I was merely pointing out the fact that the European 'white-washed' picture of Jesus hanging in the school could not have been a picture of a man born in that geographical area. My comments were meant to be silly.
These Middle school adminstrators deserve to be wacked. They could not allude to a message of peity and good works without putting up a depiction of Jesus?
The adminstrators could have said, lets put up photos of persons whom have preformed good deeds and pious acts without being a "religious" figure; in other words, people that walked the talk. Such common sense problem sloving eluded these middle school adminstrators.
Furthermore, but maybe more importantly...When a depiction of Jesus is placed on a "wall of fame, with the likes of Abraham Linclon, Ghandi, MLK, and JFK, it sends the message that Jesus was just a historical figure that did good works. He holds no place of honor or reverence.

Atheists are famously anti-intellectualists, they actually think Jesus is a figment of the religious conservative imagination and not a real person who existed and changed the course of human history.
I'll bet they think Alexander the Great was made up by Hollywood too.
LOL. Yeah, believing in a magical man from 2000 years ago is so intellectual.
Thats the intellectual equivalent of a ten year old, who still believes in Santa Claus.

Your freedoms were not compromised.
Everyone has a choice to confront their fears, or walk away. Pick your battles wisely.
Hm, I guess maybe I should be able to put up large billboards with pictures of hard core pornography out side of every church. All the Christens on their way to church can walk past them and go on about their day worshipping Jesus. Their rights are not compromised. Oh wait, we have laws against that sort of thing. I get it, Christens rights trump non-Christens rights.
Oops, I was reading painting/picture as the same.
I was wondering what historical event.
Her being baptised is not an American historical event.
Native Americans were here before the crazy christians. They didn't come to the US to seek religious freedom. Is there no other point in her life that could have been represented?
As I said, like it or not, it's a part of American history. And I prefer we remember history. Even those bad parts.

Sure, and gladly so. That is, right up until the display of religion is carried out by a government authority figure with a captive audience. Then - seeing as it's my dime - I do in fact have a say.

Words for school boards to live by. Perhaps somebody ought to hang a framed copy of Lemon v. Kurtzman somewhere.

It almost doesn't matter - all myths have a starting point. I have no beef with the idea of a carpenter's son turned rabbi making enough of a fuss that the authorities slapped him down in the not-too-subtle manner of the day.

Plus, he tends to look like such a wuss. We're talking about a guy who'd make 150 gallons of wine to keep a wedding going, a guy who took on the money changers single-handedly, a man who used to work with his hands. The anemic "God's lamb" iconography really doesn't match the story too well.
All the more reason not to put up an image of him. Historical inaccuracy.
