The Washington National Cathedral, where the nation gathers to mourn tragedies and celebrate new presidents, will soon begin performing same-sex marriages. Cathedral officials tell The Associated Press the church will be among the first Episcopal congregations to implement a new rite of marriage for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender members.
"I read the Bible as seriously as fundamentalists do," Hall told the AP. "And my reading of the Bible leads me to want to do this because I think it's being faithful to the kind of community that Jesus would have us be."
What a wonderful loving reverend, and a truly beautiful church.
Yes, seriously. I am talking about the ceremony. When such unchristian act is performed in a church building, which is considered to be a "house of God", it makes mockery of God, the church, God's laws and Christianity as whole. You might as well practise voo-doo in the church. It defiles the place, and it can no longer be called "the house of God". It will be just another building. Of course the real "church" are the followers of Christ, not buildings. IMO the followers of Christ should not worship God in a building which was been defiled in this manner.
Funny, I thought the reverend was acting in a Christ like manner. You know loving his neighbors, tolerance...
Absolutely not. Condoning, and promoting sin is pretty much the opposite of being Christlike, and the opposite of loving your neighbor. You do not love your neighbor by pushing them into the abyss.
Jesus forgives sins, but He does not promote them. He helped the sinner in the Bible, and forgave her sins, but added : "go, and sin no more". The priest who marries gays says "go, and sin some more", which is the opposite.
I love my neighbor by treating them like I would want to be treated. I also don't judge them, and don't try to make them live their lives based on my beliefs.
No one is forcing this church to host ceremonies, just like no one is going to force your church to host them. If you don't like the position of this church, don't go to this church. Simple.
"You can safely assume you've created God in your own image when it turns out that God hatesall the same people you do"
Or Gandhi, "I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ."
