I believe the GOP will go the way of the Whigs. It's a largely unpopular party and it's a dying class-- they seem to frustrate more Americans by the coming day.
I personally believe we're headed into a one party system, the GOP's becoming weaker at the federal level and eventually I think the Democrat party as it becomes larger and more polarized will split into two: a liberal and a moderate system.
Honestly if the GOP does die, I hope the libertarians rise, a one-party system sounds disgusting to me. I've seen the effects of a one-party system in Maryland and it seems like anything Democratic state leaders want, they get. I want our politicians to always have another party to compromise with, and that's just not happening in Maryland. And I'm a Democrat saying this.
I mean I completely agree with you BMOREBOY that having a two party system or even multiple party system is in the best interest for governorship but it really cant be denied that we'll be better off without the GOP. They're been a thorn in America's foot for well over a decade now in the most rambunctious ways.
I was disgusted to see how long they took with the Sandy aid/fund and the Fiscal Cliff-- while we reached a deal, it was prolonged and held back because of the confusion to the right.
I thought John Huntsman was sane and a reputable candidate for the GOP nomination-- too bad he was too sane for the extreme right. They glossed over him for sex offenders like Herman Cain, anti-LGBT activists like Rick Santorum, incompetence like Rick Perry, charlatans like Mitt Romney, and straight out of the asylum like Bachman.
I don't think it will die. The conservatives are in a conundrum & whether they figure it out or not is to be determined. They certainly are not helping their cause, I will say that. But, there are plenty of people who side w/that kind of...stuff.
Republicans are in disarray because they are losing. Democrats are winning because they keep promising free stuff to people. Sooner or later democrats will run out of other peoples money to spend. When they people stop getting free stuff, democrats will lose their popularity.

Anyone else feeling this?
Nope. It's amazing how myopic some people are. It's like 2010 never happened to these people. The Republicans defeated the Democrats in a historic landslide and now you get thread after thread after thread on this forum about how the GOP is dead. Obama got re-elected. Yes, that happened. That doesn't mean the planet is yours for eternity. Sorry to burst your bubble, but it doesn't. We had Johnson-D, then Nixon-R, then Carter-D, then Reagan/BushSr-R, then Clinton-D, then BushJr-R, then Obama-D. See a pattern here? Politics are cyclical.
What I see in the Republican party right now is a party that is basically a haven to disgruntled whites. I know people don't want to bring race into every single political discussion, but I don't see how you can't talk about race when talking about the GOP. I acknowledge that they've involved more people of different ethnicities, but the politicians aside, their brand is what matters, and their brand of politics is all about catering to White Anglo Saxon Protestants, and like-minded people, even if they don't necessarily identify themselves as religious. Look at all the tea party rallies, the gun rallies, the anti-Obama care rallies...it's mainly a see of white faces. I'd say most of the crowds are probably 95 percent or more white. It's a home to people who feel like 'their America' is being taken away from them by liberals, by blacks, by Hispanics, by Asians, and by gays. The GOP sells nostalgia, but absolutely nothing in terms of ideas.
