The worst are street thugs who cannot string two sentences together that make any sense but follow up with "you know what I'm saying".
I don't think that is exclusive to "street thugs". I have heard many people including celebrities, speaking that way. It runs a close second to "ya follow me?" Obnoxious habit.

Are you one of those people who say "like" every two words ? Ive tried to get rid off it but its impossible
Why don't you use "SUCH AS?" in place of "LIKE" once in a while?
Example:
Living in the South causes me to suffer things like hives, dandruff, and falling teeth.

Any if those repetitive speaking habits are comparable to Chinese Water Torture. I call it Verbal Torture. I have to tune it out or walk away as that prevents me from poking the offender in the eye.
As a parent I relentlessly hounded my kids, especially my daughter, when they used "like" the wrong way. They don't do it.
People who speak this way often write poorly. Instead of writing "I want a sandwich" they write "I'm thinking I want to get a sandwich."
No one gets paid to use more words.
