ALL of the dummycrat "solutions" that have cost TRILLIONS of dollars have produced more of what they were intended to prevent.
Ok so let's get this straight, because I'm a little confused on this issue.
Let's compare two legal events, and how they're perceived.
Ignoring that DC still has in comparison to many places in the US very strong gun controls, you're saying that because DC has had it's gun controls overturned, that it's now unregulated this has led to increases in gun crime.
Yet...
In the 1994 AWB where the CDC could not state that there was any statistical correlation of reduction in gun crime that could be attributed to the AWB, according to many people who are for gun control (of which I'm picking on you, because you have been one of the most vocal) it was because the laws don't work overnight, there were still millions of guns out there, and the AWB couldn't remove them.
In DC right now we have hundreds of thousands of non-gun owners, who might be gradually becoming gun owners because of the effect of Heller. Because as your side have stated (to paraphrase) laws don't work overnight.
So how can you rationally support the position that removing gun restrictions leads to instant (at least very short term) statistically relevant increases in gun crime, yet in a decade adding gun restrictions did not lead to statistically relevant decreases in gun crime?
It wasn't because some guy drove from DC to Texas to buy a gun to shoot them.
Probably a robbery to get cash for drugs or a turf war or gang business. Gun violence is downstream of drugs, gangs and all that brings.
To go after guns is fools gold. There is a point of diminishing return with gun legislation. Unless of course you take gun control to its final conclusion and that is total confiscation and not likely or possible or acceptable.
Do something about drugs and gangs and watch the gun violence become a minor statistic.

Ok... before this gets completely out of control, pun not intended... the constant practice of denigrating American cities because of their supposed strict or lax gun control laws is laughable. America's most restrictive city with respect to guns is still far more liberal than many parts of the world. LETS GET REAL!! When we rank countries by the number who are killed yearly by firearms the U.S. is in the top ten. China has 1.2 BILLION people and the chance of any one of them being killed by a gun is near infinitesimal. The chance of a U.S. citizen being shot is quite high. Being killed is not as high but still THOUSANDS of times higher than someone from, say, the UK being killed. The difference in death rates per 100,000 people is like U.S. 12 per 100,000 and the Uk 0.14 per 100,000. It doesn't take a GENIUS to see that something is very rotten in Denmark!!! It isn't the gun control laws ITS THE GUNS. As long as there are GUNS people will get killed by them. There are fewer guns in the UK, fewer people get killed by guns there. See how that works???

And how would national gun control laws have stopped this? Its not banning guns, according to the likes of you, so he still would have been able to buy a gun and shoot these 5 people. So explain to me how any national gun control laws will stop the problem?

Uh yes, but I again I ask the question and I am still waiting for an answer: According to The US President, The Vice President, Handgun Control Inc, the anti gun people on this board, including you, you don't want to ban guns. So if you don't want to ban guns, there are still going to be guns. ALOT OF GUNS. In fact, even more guns, because people will buy and buy and buy more, in case another (inevitable) ban of guns comes out.
So if there are still all these guns in this country, how is that going to lessen gun crimes? The guns are still here, still being produced, still being manufactured, still being bought.

BS. Want to stay safe in the USA? Don't join a gang, don't get involved in the drug trade, don't do business with the cartels. It really is that simple, the safest spots in the USA have the most guns, so no it is not the guns.
Oh, btw, the US homicide rate is 4.7 and the UK is 1.8 a far cry from your mythical numbers.
